The bunad socks will go home

The bunad socks are finished. Quite a lot more work than I had expected this pattern.
Now they will go back to Norway with my husband, while my travels continues back to Venice.

 

 

Knitted coat for the tree

It took me some days to discover it, but once I did, curiosity got me. A tree with a knitted coat?

I asked Paolo, who lives parttime here at Santa Maria, "Listen Paola, I have discovered something strange with one of the trees out in the garden. A kind of knitted coat. Can you tell me more about it?"

Sure, Paola could explain. There are a lot of artists and artisans visiting Santa Maria, one of them a young student from Dresden in Germany. The knitted coat is her project and is meant to me good for the tree, especially in winter. The knitting is made to expand, to grow as the tree grows.

Knitting on the train

 Yesterday I took the train from Venice down to Florence, or from Venezia to Firenze as I like to say.......I can´t understand this need in English to kind of make new names for places :-) I came early to the station with my heavy suitcase, my backpack and my little purse. There is a very nice and quiet cafe just outside the station area. I got a table there and sat down with a cappuccino and my knitting. I am working on the bunad stockings for Leander now. I had originally planned to make them in plain knitting, which would have been fast and easy. But then I changed my mind and knit a traditional pattern for bunad stockings. This really takes much longer, so now I need to busy myself to get ready for May 17th.

 

Two hours of knitting on the train helped alot :-)

 

I am going up in the Tuscany hills (Toscana hills) later today, and tomorrow my retreat starts. There might be a blogging break for a few days.......

The knitted crocus

I made it!!!!!!!
I still need some practice and some better blue to make it look even better. But.......I MADE IT!

I started to make a kind of "pattens as I go", but gave up halfway.
I will give it another try though when I make the next crocus, and the next one after that.

Anyone interested?

 

Will I manage to knit a flower pin?

I looked though my needles and pins yesterday (see photo on maskerade´s facebook page to see some of them). Inspired by the lovely crocuses I found the other day, I wanted a purple pin to go with my two shades of grey scarf, but none of the pins I have, have the colour I want. This cute little pink flower has the shape I am looking for though, and I asked myself: Will I be able to knit a purple one, or is it better to ask my husband to help me make one in plywood?

I will neven know if I never try, so last night I made a board pattern, found some purple yarn and took the first steps. The yarn is not the exact colour I am looking for, but I will give this a try and if it works I can make more flowers in other colours. Who knows, I might even make one for a giveaway some day :-)

The stem is "just a piece of cake", the more intricate steps will be knitting the flower, making it into a pin worth wearing. I do have some ideas though, and will let you know how it goes.
