Socks in all colours

I never though away left over yarn. No matter how little it is.
Being a knitter for 50+ years means that I have a lot of left overs in bags and baskets.

From time to time I decide to do something with all this yarn.

Like knitting socks for little Leander.
He started kindergarten a couple of months ago, and with a cold winter ahead he will need lots of warm sock.

You know, that´s what grandmas are for.
To keep the small feet of their grandchildren warm.

And to purt small prayers into every knit and purl.

 

Socks from Austria

Aren´t they beautiful!!!

They are knitted by my dear Austrian friend Dagmar, a dairy farmer, a knitter, a reader, a wife, a mother, and from yesterday.......A GRANDMOTHER!

A Norwegian grandma with a bunch of grandchildren to knit for

Jorunn is a friend of mine who lives on a farm about 90 minutes to drive west from Trondheim. Jorunn and I met though my English blog Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Woods, and already when we met the first time, we knew that we had a lot of tbhings in common. The last almost two years we got one more - grandkids. I have one! Jorunn has a couple of soccer teams.......almost.

Recently she has been knitting for two of her youngest grandchildren, the skirt for little Olava, the trousers for Olava´s newborn baby sister.

This is cute as a million buttons, isn´t it :-)

From Fran in Great Britain

The world is filled with great, creative, artistic knitters. Some of you read my blog, give me feedback, share your own knitting.  I love that, it is like knitting up a blanket of world wide knitting friends :-)

Fran, who lives in Great Britain, has read maskerade from its very beginning. Fran and I met though internet many years ago, and over the years we have developed a deep friendship which I know will last through our lifetimes. Fran and I have so many things in common, knitting is one of them.

Fran is a nanny, with a huge circle of "children" and "grand children", all of them lucky to have a knitting nanny. The little jacket and hat in the picture is something she knitted just recently for a newborn nanny grandchild. I just love the bright palette, so far from the pink, baby blue, white and grey we usually choose for newborns.

Socktobermonth

Internet tells me that there is campaign going on in the US somewhere, knitting socks for homeless. Since this goes on in October, it is called "socktober". I am not planning to knit socks for homeless, well, at least not now. I have done so previous, and will probably do in the future. But for the moment I will be knitting up a storm of socks for family and friends. After finishing the navy and white sweater for Leander yesterday I was going to tidy away the leftover yarn.......and when I saw the huge stack I have, I knew it was time to do something with it.

So here I am, watching Arne and Carlos on youtube, knitting leftover yarn socktobersocks.
This grey and white pair will be for Leander.

By grandma, with love and care

A few weeks ago Ingrid showed me a picture on her phone og a white and blue toddler sweater. "Mamma, do you think you can make something like this for Leander? I know the web page where we can buy the pattern."

During the 50+ years I´ve been knitting I must have knitted hundreds of sweaters in this style. "No need for a pattern" I told Ingrid, "I can make up my own." We found some very nice, soft pure wool, merinoull by Sandnes Garn, and I was ready to start.

To knit for a little boy aged almost two is so much fun. Fun because knitting this small is so fast, funnier because the little toddler is my very own grandson, and in just a few days I had most of it done, only the last edges left.

Leander is coming tomorrow to visit his bestemor and bestefar, and today I finished the sweater.
The very last tough is a little label which says:

The pilgrim mittens

I have been on a pilgrimage for two days with my colleagues. At our final destination we were met with a fantastic lunch, and then shown the little village museum. In there I found a box filled with hand knitted mittens.

There were dozens of them, all knitted by a 91 years old woman.

The cross in the middle of a four circled knot, is the pilgrim symbol in Norway. Isn´t it lovely the way it is knitted into the mitten?

I wonder if I can do this when I am 91.

Of course I had to buy a pair :-)

Late Sunday night here, and I am ready for another work week. Terje has been busy sorting though a cupboard down in the basement, and found a big bag of knitted sweaters from when our kids were small. Most of them knitted by me, some by my mother. Many of them are the perfect size for Leander.
