Some years ago I visited Nepal. I was there partly to look at projects supportet by a Norwegian organisation, HimalPartner, and during my two weeks I spent a couple of days in Tansen, a town up in the mountains. A visit to the hospital was on my list. HimalPartner supports the hospital and while I was visiting a Norwegian doctor worked there. He took me around to all the different departments, ending up in the maternity ward.
I had a very special reason for wanting to see some of the newborn babies.
It can be cold up in the Nepalesi mountains, and soft, warm clothing for the babies is essential.
All the way from Norway I had brought with me a huge bag of small baby hats and baby socks, knitted by my mother and a friend of hers.
I had taken a photo of my mother before I left, and could show it to the people at the hospital.
Oh my! We really had a lot of fun opening the bag, looking at all the beautifull knitted items. Each stich filled with love and prayers for the little newborns.
This year it has happened again. My mother and her friend have knitted more hats. Dozens of them. And in a few days they, the hats, will be flying to Nepal, to Tansen and to the same hospital. This year I am not the one to travel, but a group of Norwegians will spend Easter in Nepal, and the hats are sent to the leader of the group.
I love to knit baby hats. How can I help? To where would I mail the hats? Love your blog. I can no longer travel but reading your blog is the next best thing. I feel a special link with Norway as many of my ancestors were Norwegian. It looks like a very beautiful country.

Hi Barbara. How nice of you to offer to knit hats for the newborn babies in Nepal. I think it would be a much better idea for you to find somthing local to knit for though. It would be too expensive to mail them to Norway and then for someone from here to take them to Nepal. What my mother has done is not something organised, just sending a bag with me when I went there some years ago, and when she heard about this Norwegian group going this Easter she sent her hats to the leader of the group :-)
If I knew that I would go back to Nepal I could perhaps organise something, but I have no plans for the moment.

Thanks, Britt. I thought you did this through a charity. Looking forward to your blogs on Italy. Have read many novels set in Venice, but have never been there. Your Norwegian toddler clothes are lovely!
