As I have told you before, our oldest daughter is getting quite an avid knitter. I taught her to knit as a child, but it was only when she got pregnant, two years ago, that she startet to knit. For real I mean. And now she produces one item after the other. Knitting for kids have become quite popular here in Norway. Part of this is due to two woman who are making the books Klompelompe, take a look here.

The romper you see in the picture above is made by Ingrid, using a klompelompe patters. She makes lots of them, and gives away to newborn babies of friends. She still needs a liitle mamma help to finish the edges, so from time to time there is a back with an almost finished romper here, waiting for my fingers to get busy.

As May 17th is getting closer, and my month in Italy is coming to an end, Leander´s sweather, or jacket as I like to call it, is growing. Row by row. Row by row. Still I need to be all by myself when working on it, saying out aloud something like red, black, red, red, five times red and black, four reds, black, red, black, black, red and so on.

 

Sometimes I am doing a red when it is supposed to be a black.
Other times I lose a stick and has to knit backwards for one or two rows.

 

Most of the time I am doing fine though, and I am slowly starting to believe that I will make it till the 17th!

Lellabella, a yarn shop in Venice

A few days ago I posted a picture of a closed door, the door to a yarn shop in Venice. When the noise of the drilling machine sent me out walking yesterday, I decided to go back to the store.. May be not to buy anything, but al least to have a look. The store, Lellabella, is not far from my apartment, and I have learned my way now. Withojut a map. Without any wrong turns.

This time the shop was open, and one of the owners was inside, knitting. I went in of course and as always, after saying "buon giorno", asked "do you speak English?" Luckily, for me, she did, and soon we were deep in a conversation about knitting. The Lellabella yarn shop is owned by mother and daughter, Lella and Monica. The mother, Lella, was the one I met, and she told me she had run the shop for more than 40 years.

The shop is only a small one, and according to Lella, all the yarn they sell is Italian. Here and there you find knitted models, all made by Lella and Monica. All very colourful. Just the way I like it.

"Look at the colourful fringe" I said when I saw this. "Yes, this is modern in Italy for the moment" Lella told me.

If I bought anything?
Well, of course I did. And Lella had to do a special search to find what I wanted :-)

Knitting on a rainy day

It has been a rainy day in Venice today. I decided it was a good opportunity to sit inside my apartment and work on my special study project. I did for a long time, only a short trip out for my daily cappuccino. Then some terrible noise started, some construction work on the building. The sound of the drilling machine almost making my go crazy. I managed to fight it back for a long time.......by working on Leander´s knitting. You know, knitting is the very best way to fight stress.......but in the end I had to give up.

I walked out, with my umbrella and some pair of very good shoes.......and ended up having a most wonderful knitting adventure.......which I will tell you about tomorrow :-)

 

The little Italian boy in his Norwegian sweather

Can you remember the blog post from last week with the picture of the sweather I had made for the little 2 years old Italian boy? Here it is. Little Nicolas Lanny tried the sweather on the other day, and his grandparents, Jane and Lanny, sent me some photos.

I know about one yarn shop here in Venice. There might be more, but the one is the only one I have come accross so far on my wanderings. And believe me, I do wander quite a lot. I walked over to the store today, determined to go in to see if I could find any goodies. But unfortunately, closed for lunch.

So I ended up window shopping instead.

I might go back another day. Or I might not.
I guess I have yarn enough already to last me a couple of life times, still, this looks quite pretty, doesn´t it :-)

 

The pattern

Here is the pattern which will be the back of Leander´s jacket. The front is the same, though it will be cut up in the front. 86 rows, and May 17th is in only 23 days. This means I have to knit at least four rows every day, and then of course I also have the sleeves to do.......

Only 23 days left.......and no time to cross my fingers. They are too busy knitting.

Will I make it in time.......

Our week in Florence is over. We left our apartment this morning, my husband to go to the airport to fly back home to Norway, I to go to the railway station for the train up to Venize. Unfortunately the airport in Florence is a very small one with a short space for planes to take off. Apparently it was a bit windy today, and his plane was cancelled. After 7 (!) hours on the airport he was sent by bus to Verona. There he will have to stay overnight, and tomorrow he will fly Verona - Rome, Rome - Amsterdam and then finally Amsterdam - Trondheim. Poor guy!

I had two very nice hours on the speed train, and managed to do several rows of the knitting on the bunad jacket for Leander. The jacket is small, but the yarn is thin, the needles are thin and the pattern is quite complicated, so I have to count ALL THE TIME! Very time consuming and I am really starting to worry. Will I make it till May 17th?????

The bunad socks will go home

The bunad socks are finished. Quite a lot more work than I had expected this pattern.
Now they will go back to Norway with my husband, while my travels continues back to Venice.
