Life close to the Cathedral

This morning the scaffolding was finally down on the south wall of the cathedral. 10 years of restoration is finished. I stopped for a while, enjoying what I saw.

Mornings like this, mornings like every morning, is what makes living close to a cathedral so exciting.

Every day a blessing!

Did I say that the scaffolding was all taken away? Well, this is not quite true. Still there is some work which will be done on this door. More exciting work to follow.  

The renovation

 
Renovating a cathedral takes centuries. You finish on one corner only to start the next. For ten years the south eastern wall of Nidaros cathedral has been covered. I have no number for how many times I have passed, wondering when the secrets behind would be shown.

The past few weeks have been exciting, with the painting of one of the top spires.

Then I woke to the morning news this morning. 10 years of renovation are now finished. The wall will again be possible to see and enjoy.

 
It was exciting to walk through the park this morning. What would I see?

It was still too early. But then, a couple of hours later when I went out to have my morning coffee, the spire was just lifted to its proper place. Television and newspaper were there and a picnic was held to celebrate.
