I need to take my mind of the situation in the Philippines. I am not forgetting, and don´t want to forget. There are still no news from Streetlight and the children. But I need to focus on something else for a while.
A book is The Thing!
And not any book. But one which I have been looking forward to read for some time now: My Name is Red by Orhan Pamuk.
While I was in Istanbul in August, my blog reader Pinar took me on a very special tour, starting in Pera Museum. There I met The Turtle Trainer, a painting by Osman Hamdi Bey. How can I NOT have heard of neither the painting nor the painter before? Every single day I am amazed by all there is between heaven and earth, all I still am to discover........
A few weeks ago, when I was looking though my Istanbul photos I sent Pinar an email, asking if she knew if there were written any novels where The Turtle Trainer plays a role. She did not, but she recommended My Name is Red which is a very interesting book about Turkish art.
I knew I had to read the book of course.
Turkish television was in Pura Museum the day we were there, so I was not able to see the painting properly. My telephoto lens did a quite good job, but not good enough. I have a reason to go back to Istanbul to study this remarcable painting properly, and also to learn more about the artist.
Meanwhile, a Saturday afternoon will be spent reading Orhan Pamuk´s tale.
Here is some information about the painting.
By the way, the second photo is of the elevator door in the museum :-)
