Just one day in Terracina

Terracina is a seaside town in Latina, south of Roma. We have friends who have an apartment there, and have been able to visit many times over the years. This time we have just one day, and so many things we wanted to do....... Well, no doubt, the first thing on our list, after breakfast, was to have coffee over at Ingrid and Angelo´s Caffe del Duomo.

Then some walking around and some shopping,

before heading down to the beach for lunch, and then a swim and som sunbathing.

Later, much later, our friends took us to a newly opened restaurant, Al Giardino.Under the lemon trees.

Our table was set inside a grotto. 

One day is not enough of course, but tomorrow we continue our Italia adventure. Terracina, we'll be back!

 

Postcards from Terracina

We woke up to rain this morning, probably the only wet day during our autumn vacation. Perfect for us then, friends had invited us for a birthday lunch, and when the lunch was over, the sun shone from a blue, blue sky. On our walk back to our place I shot a few images :-)

 

Hiking with two fit fiddles

Terje is fit as a fiddle. Ingrid is fit as a fiddle. Baby Milian hikes everywhere, carried on his mamma´s front. I love to hike, but fit as a fiddle.......no, I am not.

Anyway, when my two fiddles wanted to hike today, I went with them of course. Sweating, breathing hard and enjoying every single minute.

And of course, stopping for photos are always a perfect excuse to have a little break.

 

Life at the piazza

Very long time readers of Britt Arnhild´s House in the Woods know about this piazza, in the old part of Terracina, a town south of Roma, (Rome= north of Napoli (Naples). Friends of us have an apartment in the palazzo to the right of the cathedral, we are lucky to be able to come and stay.

Life at this old piazza can be so many things. It can be a silver haired Norwegian woman sitting there with her morning coffee and her crocheting,

It can be a young bride struggling the steep stairs up to the cathedral on her high heels,

or it can be a little boy, eight months old just today, crawling around on bare feet. Feet too dirty for a grandmother's kiss, or.......no, they can never be too dirty for that. You see, a bestemors love makes tiny toes clean :-)

 

Back in Italia for.......well, 17 days

To make the most of what you have

For the first time in many, many years I have traveled without my Nikon camera and also without my MacBookPro. I do`not need to blog, I told myself, your sholders are painful, you shall travel light.

Of course I need not blog. But then, we have had lunch and it is resting time. The wish to blog hit me like a lightening.

"No problem" Terje said, you can use my computer. I know you have pictures enough, I have seen you with your pocket camera and your cell phone all day"

So there I found myself, with Terje's computer, with no photo programs to help me, and then with an internet connection too slow to upload one single photo.

A sign not to blog?
Oh no, of course not...........

"What about my computer? It is connected to the wifi by cable"

 Still no photo programs, but from my friend's computer I am able to upload the raw photos directly from the memory cards. And I am doing the most of it, just like this street art painting which we passed today. Use what you get and make the most of it.

Who knows, may be art is created.........

 

 

Sweet seventeen in Italy.

While we have been in Denmark, our sweet severntten is in Italy/Terracina on her own for 16 days. It was not an easy decision to send her there on her own, but she knows the town after several summers there with us, she knows people there and she has been a good girl and sent us sms every day to keep us updated.

Yesterday she was in Rome with friends. Marta and I wanted to go there too and spent the night watching the dvd with Mary-Kate and Ashley in Rome :-)

Ingrid will be back Saturday night, and Sunday is her sweet seventeen birthday. Welcome home!

Cantina Campo dei Fiori

My daughter will soon be going to Italy and Terracine for 16 days. This will be her third visit to Terracina, but the first one "on her own". I looked through some of my Terracina photos the other day, and long to go back myself. And one day I will.....

I celebrated my birthday in Terracina this year, and for my birthday dinner I invited a few friends to Cantina Campo dei Fiori. A small, but thoroughly charming restaurant in Centro Storico, and thoroughly charming Italians working there. I know that Ingrid will go there to eat during her stay and she will greet Davide and the others from me.

Two Italian weeks.

It is already five days since I came back home from two wonderful weeks in Terracina (I stayed in the flat with the open green windows). I had a lovely time, and it is heaven to be back home with my family. Though I love travelling alone I missed them every minute.

The reason while I went to Italy and terracina was to get time and inspiration to work on my book, the Norwegian book I am writing about Lent and lental traditions. The writing is far from finished, but I did get alot of work done. And also alot of new inspiration. My digital camera is not working properly, so I have very few photos from this trip. The once I am showing you today are from last summer. But my good friend and the owner of the flat, took alot of photos. As soon as she is back home in Norway and has sent me her photos I have some new ones to show you.

For the coming weeks I am going to be very busy with my exams comiung up - end of May and beginning of June. So my blog time might be somewhat limited I am afraid.

Greetings from Terracine

No photos, but a short note to let you know that I am having wonderful Italian days. Terracina is friendly and beautiful as always. I am working hard on my book, but I am also finding time to walk in the nearby mountains, and in the city of Terracina. Took part in a funeral yesterday. Sadly one of the neighbours, and owner of one of the restaurant we frequented during our summer stays, died of cancer the day I came. A blessing to be able to take part in the funeral. Tomorrow I am planning to spend the whole day in Roma.
