At Røros the old wooden church, Bergstaden Ziir, can be seen wherever you are in the village. With it's significant black and white structure it has been and is a building popular among artists, and if you want a place for pracers and silence the church is always there.

One of the games I play when I am at Røros is to photograph the church from different angels, with different houses in the foreground. How many different church motives am I able to make?

.....and when we are tired of walking we can go inside the church for prayers.

At Røros you never fail to see the grand, old wooden church. We had our meeting in the congregational house, and when I needed some dreaming time (I was the secretary during the meeting, so I had to concentrate), I just looked out the window.

Røros has a wide specter of fasinations. The old wooden houses have a very special place in my heart. On my way to my first meeting Friday after lunch I sceduled time for a house walk.

Hand in hand with my Nikon I walked down snow covered streets, my two eyes competing with Nikon's single one; whom of us found the most charming house........

  Nikon's eye flickered when she saw the cross country skier in the middle of the treet, but she was soon back on track; we were here to capture houses.

Looking left and right, always one house more charming than the other. Nikon made herself busy and laughed in delight.

I never get tired of the old houses of Røros, painted in a palette taken directly from earth and soil. If I had the money I would buy a house in one of the small streets, I would decorate to windows, I would hang wreaths in winter and plant flower boxes in summer. I would come there every week-end, to write my books, listen to music, invite friends, reflect in silence .........

This is the first of a series of Røros posts I will make. Marie Noëlle, Dagmar and Roz, the day after my birthday celebrations (the garden party), I hope to take you up to Røros for the day.

Invited to tea.

Curtains are washed and ironed, flowers just watered, the bike wheels are still hot after the ride to the bakery. Inside the coffee is almost ready, the fresh pastries are put on an old plate, the house's best china, black and gold, is on the table.

The house is ready for a party, and I've been invited.

But why, the door is locked?

Do you keep your heart door open for invited guests?

I passed this house at Røros last week and couldn't resist a photo. Only when I came home and downloaded the photo did I see the special locker on the door.

Window with a view - for whom?

A window is for the people in the house to get daylight in and to be able to look out to see what is going on outdoors. But a window also have another purpose - for passers by to look in, to make up stories of the people living there, to enjoy the curtains and the windowsill display, to feel the warmth and the light shining out from the rooms inside.

When I walk around I love to watch windows and their displays. You can tell alot about the owner's personality while watching windows. The stories you make up might have its only rooths in your imagination, but as long as window watching is giving me so much joy, is such tasty food for my mind, I don't care. I keep on walking and enjoying what I see. And I try to make my own windows inviting for passers by.

Room with a view.

I am an early morning bird, so when I stay in hotels I am often one of the first to come to the breakfastroom. Saturday morning at Røros I am glad I did, because it meant that in the huge room, I could sit down at one of the tables with the best view.

As I often travel alone, I usually bring a book and my diary with me to breakfast. Many a word has been written down after eating, while enjoying a second cup of coffee.

I have written a diary more or less regularly since I was 5 years old. Then I got a beautiful, pink diary for my birthday. My diary is only for myself, a place where I write down thoughts and reflections, small pieces of everyday life, difficulties and joys.

My diary travels with me everywhere.

Two beautiful autumn days at Røros where I spent every break walking around in the village with my camera. Want to come along?

Bergstaden Ziir is the name of the church; the beauty/adornment of the mountain village. The huge church was built in this very small village around 1780, and has amazed people since then.

The church can be seen from almost everywhere in the village, and looking through my photos now it is totally impossible to pick out a best one to show you.

On Saturday it was raining when I walked around. I had a pair of thin summer pumps on and got soaked, but didn't realise it before I was back at the hotel and feeling how cold I really was.

Will he be waiting for me?

I am at Røros again, this charming mining town, up in the mountains, two hours south of Trondheim. This time for two days with samien people, a group of indigenous people here in Norway.

When I was at Røros a month ago I did a walk in the old part of the small town, and through a gate, or more precise, from under a gate, this little charmeur was watching me. I wonder if I will meet him again.

Back to work.

After four weeks of vacation and studies I am back to work. But was lucky and had a soft start as we (the staff where I work) have been to Røros for two days.

Røros is an old mining town/village, on UNESCOs World Heritage list. It is situated a little more than two hours south of Trondheim up in the mountains.

We had long indoor days working together as a staff, but also had an hour walking around the village with a guide on Monday afternoon, and started Tuesday with a mass in a tiny little church outside the village together with the local clergymen.

I've always been fascinated by houses, and most of all by painted, wooden houses, which we have so many of in Norway. Røros is a paradise for lovers of wooden houses, and during the guiding my camera was busy, busy. I go to Røros several times a year and have loads of photos from the village, but I always get new glimpses through the camera lenses. This time I loved shooting the church, "Bergstaden Ziir" from different angles.
