I am on a sick leave for the moment, with time at hand to sit down, to walk, to reflect, to be. Today my best friend has been here for lunch. We ate, we knitted, but most of all we talked.

Ta have a best friend is one of the blessings in life. To have several is another blessing. To share part of yourself, to be given part of the other.

 

Because of all the youtube videos the Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Wood´s site might be hard to open. My music today will be the workds of friends. Your words as they travel accross the ocenas. Let is sit down under Seljamannfoss, the Seljamann Waterfall (in Iceland) and share from our heart.

If you were sitting there with your best friend, on the old bench, listening to the falling water - what would you talk about?

Not far from The House in the Woods, close to the Granåsen Ski Arena (where there was a FIS World Cup in ski jump last weekend), there is a small pond where the ducks love to spend their winters. This golden photo is from a couple of weeks ago, taken during one of my walks. Today I use it to illustrate Chopin´s Piano Concerto No 1 e-moll. At times the music might sound more dramatic then the photo, at other times the sound of the piano goes perfect with the sun playing in the lake.

This winter we have got a new Book of Hymns in The Church of Norway. The singer Helga Johanne Størdal and a few of her musician friends have collected a few of the new hymns and made them into the CD "No stig vår song". The hymn I am sharing, "there is an earth" was the only one I found on youtube, so here it is for all of you.

 

I was out walking along the river Nidelven the other day, with my camera as always. Spring is slowly arriving in our corner of the world. My favorite season, a season when all of me, my whole body, is rejoycing, a season when everything smells new, fresh, a season of hope, of beliefs.

After long, dark winter months I start to breath with my stomack again,
and my smile wrinkles get deeper.

Tine Thing Helseth is a young Norwegian trumpet player. On this video she plays Les filles de Cadix by Delibe. I "discovered" Delibes many years ago via his opera Lakmé. He soon became a favorite composer of mine.

As it is the International Women´s Day today, I have a photo from the Ethiopian countryside, and a female violinist, Vilde Frang.

 

 

And I am reading one of my favorite lent authors, Joanne Harris. Not Chocolate this year, but Peaches for Monsieur Curé.

 Some years ago I read Vikram Seth´s An Equal Music (for the first time, since then I have read and read it again......) Through the book I discovered Bach´s The Art of Fugue, and in a tiny little music store in Oslo, which is closed now unfortunately, I found a CD with Emerson String Quartet. While searching YouTube today, I found a short sample for you.

 

By the way, An Equal Music is a perfect book for Venice. I will bring it with me when we go there again in April. Daily Telegraph writes - the finest novel about music ever written in English.

40 days of Lent. Day 1

Ash Wednesday, the first of 40 days of lent.
Through this period I plan to post one photo a day, Monday till Saturday. The Sundays are not days of fasting and will be different. With the photo I will also give some music suggestion. The music I am listening to while having my time of reflections.

  

My hope is that the photo and the music will be of inspiration for you on your walk through lent.

 

This first music video is the most special. My mother playing Grieg. Today is my mother´s 84th birthday. The video is by my brother Børge.
