Knitting for grandchildren

I have been working on Leander´s kofte, cardigan, for several months. From the very start when I drew the pattern, combining traditional designs from the Faroe Island and Norway, then choosing yarn ands colours, and then weeks and weeks of knitting.

And now I have come to the last part, the most difficult part but also the most exciting part. Sew and cut and put together.

Leander´s kofte is almost done, and when it is, I will start designing a new patters.......for another little baby. Ingrid is expecting her second in January :-)

One of the lions has got a little braided tale. A detail which was not in the original pattern.

I went back to work today, after a wonderful summer. Autumn is approaching, and then also time for more knitting. I am on the hook.

Spring is in the air

Spring is in the air, and both Terje and I have long list of things to do. Cleaning the bicycle, was on Terje´s list, and when Leander saw bestefar busy cleaning, he decided his bike needed a deep clean as well. Water and soap and a lot of hand cleaning. And afterwards the bicycles dried in the late afternoon sun.

 

I am busy in the garden and in the greenhouse, and.......

The Magi and their gifts according to a two year old

I have a little nativity which is perfect for Leander to play with. The other day he and I acted the tale about the birth of Jesus together. Leander finds it very exciting that the nativity have a baby, a mother and a father, and he loves the small animals in the manger. But when the magi comes he does not agree with me when I tell about their gifts. Gold, frankincense and myrrh? What are those for gifts?

Leander has a much better idea. He wants baby Jesus to have the best there is, and offers him a tractor, a fire engine and an excavator!

A few weeks ago Ingrid showed me a picture on her phone og a white and blue toddler sweater. "Mamma, do you think you can make something like this for Leander? I know the web page where we can buy the pattern."

During the 50+ years I´ve been knitting I must have knitted hundreds of sweaters in this style. "No need for a pattern" I told Ingrid, "I can make up my own." We found some very nice, soft pure wool, merinoull by Sandnes Garn, and I was ready to start.

To knit for a little boy aged almost two is so much fun. Fun because knitting this small is so fast, funnier because the little toddler is my very own grandson, and in just a few days I had most of it done, only the last edges left.

Leander is coming tomorrow to visit his bestemor and bestefar, and today I finished the sweater.
The very last tough is a little label which says:

Amazing days of September

September seems to be a new month of summer up north where we live. Years ago we could expect frost at the end of September, at least some years. This year (and many previous) the temperatures are more like a Nordic summer. The days are getting shorter, autumnal equinox has come and gone, but we still have daylight enough for dinners out in the garden.

One day last week, Terje, Marta and I picked up Leander in kindergarten, stopped to buy hotdogs on our way home, and had a bonfire feast.
