I have started a very exciting project this December; Visiting the World Through Books. Eventually I plan to "visit" every single country in our world, almost 200, by reading at least one book from every country. I started a couple of weeks ago in India, continued to Nepal and am now in Ireland. Turkey will be next on my list and then future destinations are still in planning.
I will blog about this of course. The English blogging in
Books on the Menu
with a facebook page called
Visiting the World Through Books
The Norwegian blogging will be on
Med bøker på menyen
and a connecting facebook page at
Verden rundt med bøker
Reading the book from Nepal, which you can read about in the two blogs, has sent me down a long memory lane, and it was extra fun last night when a blog reader and follower of Visiting the World Through Books suddenly posted a childhood photo of the author of A friend in a thousand.
In 2013 I posted about my nativity from Nepal. The post, which could be read on Caffe Avec that year, can now be read here:
Today´s nativity is from Nepal, bought during a 10 days visit in April this year.
One of the last days we were visiting a project in Kathmandu where a group of women were making pedagogical toys for nurseries. One woman was working on a small doll family which charmed me. I asked if I could buy it and while she was finishing the last stiches I was looking around.
Then I saw a tiny little photo on the wall, showing another doll family, this time shaped as a nativity set.
"Do you have of these?" I asked the women.
"We use to sell them at Christmas time" was the answer, "but unfortunately we don´t have any right now."
I am sure they all could see my disappointment, and when I had payed and was on my way out, one of the women came after me. "Wait a little. It might be that we have a nativity set hidden somewhere in here. Let me do a search."
The search result? You can see for yourself, can´t you :-)
