Saint Lucy´s Day, The Feast of Light.
Lucy, or Lucia as we call her in Norway, and in Italy where she came from, was martyred around year 300.
Legends are connected to Lucia, many of them, and it is impossible to know today what the truth is. In Norway the day has been a mixture between the Christian day of celebrating The Light, and the much older pagan tradition Lussi Langnatt, the longes night of the year when you stayed indoors with locked doors, afraid of the evil spirit Lussi (a word made from lusifer). December 13th was the start of the midwinter festivities, the Jule feast, and on the night between the 12th and the 13th of December all the preparations should be finished. Lussi flew around, visiting every farm, every house, checking that everything was ready. You better keep your doors locked that night.
We live in the time when Light has come to earth. For all and for ever.
I don´t need locks any more. I light my candles and I open my doors.
And this year especially for refugees, asylum seekers and other people in need.
