We have a nesting box in one of the huge trees in the garden.
It is a magic nesting box,
it has a built in camera, you see.
The camera let us follow the life inside the box on our television screen.
Now we are crossing our fingers that two bird parents will make the box their love nest.

I have been down to the river again today, to watch the birds.
Last week there were at least seven swans there.
Today I found only one.
A whooper swan must be among the most beautiful creatures on earth.

Tomorrow I hope to post a video from the river on YouTube.
Today there is one from the places in the garden where I feed the garden birds.
I am so sorry you got no sound on yesterday´s video Ardi. I just checked ands the sound is there okay.

Leander is spending part of the weekend with us. After breakfast today we filled a bag with old, dry bread and drove over the the river to feed the ducks. The ducks were hungry and came as soon as we left the car, wondering what treats we had for them.
After our bread bag was emptied, it was time to look for some other birds.
The swans and cormorants were still there.
I see that several of you call then swans Berwick Swans. Berwick swans, Cygnus columbianus bewickii are not common in Norway. The ones in my pictures are Whooper swans, cygnus cygnus, or song swans as we call them in Norway.
They are so beautiful, aren´t they :-)

The icy cold winter is still here. Poor birds. I wonder how they survive.
I drove over to the river after lunch, and met the swans, and a few ducks.
I have been thinking back today, to the many years I have not been friends with winter.
This is changing.
Now I see more and more of its beauty.
Day by day.

I drove over to the botanical gardens the other day, to look for birds. You see, I had heard that it might be possible to see a bird which is quite rare here in Trondheim, coming on winter visits from Russia from time to time.
The day was icy cold with a wind which felt like being hit by icicles.
I still walked around, managing to get a few shots.
A red robin, a blue tit, a common tit, but not what I was searching for.
But then.......
a couple of, or three actually, birders,
with cameras with huge lenses.
I walked over as silent as I could,
and there.......
Is there something among the pinecones?
Yes, there is!
The bird I was seeking.
The two-barred crossbill :-)

It has been cold here today. Minus 6 Celsius during lunch break, but I put my winter coat, gloves, scarf and a hat on and went for a walk. As I have a goal to count the different types of birds I see this year, I wanted to go down to the river to see what I found.
An old man was feeding the mallards, and I stopped to watch. What fun to see the ducks eating from his hands. I could feel the inside of me smiling, the kind of smile I love :-)
Mallards, pigeons, a crow, a few seagulls.......
and then I saw it, a bird unknown to me.
A male common goosander (mergander).
Last year I saw a female, this is my first male.

It is Saturday, the days are short now in mid-November and I decided I wanted to give the birds some weekend treats.
A few fallen down apples, two dried sunflowers, a few sunflower seeds.
The blue tit was first out to discover the treat.
Next came the great tit.
Now I wonder when the squirrels will find the treat :-)

I was out in the garden when suddenly I heard hundreds of starlings singing. They filled the trees in my neighbour´s garden, they filled the lawns. In between singing they ate a million earthworms.
The starlings are busy now. They eat as much as possible for the long flight ahead, and they gather in groups, bigger and bigger, to migrate together.
They are not ready to leave yet though.......
.......first they want to bring joy to a silver haired gardener.
