I had lunch with my parents today. They are 88 and 85 now. My father has not been feeling quite well lately, was in hospital when I had my birthday party, but is home again now, feeling better. I am happy to spend as much time as possible with them.
No lunch without my mother playing the piano.
She is reading Lucinda Rileys series Seven Sisters for the moment. She especially loves book number two, which is about the Norwegian composer Edward Grieg, and is playing a lot of Grieg for the moment.
Today she showed me a sheet of paper given her by her father, my grandpa Benjamin, at Christmas 1946, when my mother was 16 years old. Grandpa Benjamin, who died of cancer only two months after I was born, was a great lover of his daughter´s piano music. He often attended Christian meetings to speak, and then my mother came with him to play.
The music she played for me today was from this sheet. To the spring, An den Frühling, Til våren, by Edward Grieg.
