I unwrapped one of my birthday gifts today. A friend, who was not able to come to the party, sent me a message not long ago. "Britt-Arnhild, I am coming to Trondheim on Wednesday. If you have time I would love to invite you out for lunch. My birthday gift to you."
Of course I had time. Well, not on the first Wednesday she suggested. But on the second. Today :-)
So I left work almost in the middle of a meeting and ran down to Café Sunnanå, where my friend already was waiting. All smiles.
We had lunch, home made gnocchies, we drank foxberry juice, we talked, we smiled, we talked some more, we had coffee, and most of all - we had a jolly good time!
I had lunch with my parents today. They are 88 and 85 now. My father has not been feeling quite well lately, was in hospital when I had my birthday party, but is home again now, feeling better. I am happy to spend as much time as possible with them.
No lunch without my mother playing the piano. She is reading Lucinda Rileys series Seven Sisters for the moment. She especially loves book number two, which is about the Norwegian composer Edward Grieg, and is playing a lot of Grieg for the moment.
Today she showed me a sheet of paper given her by her father, my grandpa Benjamin, at Christmas 1946, when my mother was 16 years old. Grandpa Benjamin, who died of cancer only two months after I was born, was a great lover of his daughter´s piano music. He often attended Christian meetings to speak, and then my mother came with him to play.
The music she played for me today was from this sheet. To the spring, An den Frühling, Til våren, by Edward Grieg.
Even though I don´t post here every day for the moment, a lot of stuff is going on in my social media life. So I decided it is time to give you a little update.
With the lovely weather which continues, I am tempted to start early with the sowing. I know that there might still come nights with frost, but I don´t have room for all the pots indoors. I have an oven in the greenhouse which I can turn on during the cold nights, so hopefully it will be okay. I also believe that the plants will develop to be strong and stubborn with this start.
Of course the sowing is perpetuated at YouTube :-)
A few days ago we had full winter here in my corner of the world.
Then the temperatures warmed up, and all of a sudden, summer, and bumblebees and butterflies were here.
I love every season, but how can I say that any other season than these lovely days of spring is my favourite?
All my life I have been counting signs of spring, and for about 10 years or something now, I have had a very special, beautifully bound notebook where I write down signs of spring. Like yesterday I saw the first northern lapwing of the year, today I saw a flock of flying geese on their way north, the other day the first common chaffinch of the year had lunch in the garden, this afternoon I picked the first leirfivel / tussilago and gave it to my American friend Jane.......and I could go on and on and on.
After six long months of cold winter and snow it feels strange when summer suddenly knock on your door. With temperatures up to 17 degrees Celsius the snow melt so fast you can almost see it with your eyes. Wed are having our friends from California, Jane and Lanny here for a few days, and today we had this year´s first meal out in the garden.
