New places to explore, Los Abrigos

Our sixth time in Tenerife.
Well, one of the sixth was quite short, only a few hours of waiting fore the ferry over to La Gomera.

Four whole weeks. 
This is our fifth.

Tenerife is not a big island and we feel we start to know it a bit by now.

Still, I am sure there are a million place we´ve not been yet.

We started today by the swimming pool. Sun tanning.
Too soon clouds came. Or may be at the perfect time.Too much sun the first day is not good for your body.

We have a rented car all week, Terje loves to study maps and make plans, and soon we were out driving.

First up in the mountains.
There the temperatures dropped fast, so we headed back to the sea.

There we found a fishing village where we´ve never been before.
Los Abrigos.

We had lunch. Amazingly yummy risotto with asparagus.
We went for a walk.
We had coffee.......

.......and we fell in love with another of Tenerife´s many fishing villages.

Just before the storm hit Trondheim, our plane left the airport, and less than 6 hours later we were in Tenerife.

Winter weather

We are having a great winter so far this year. We got snow before Christmas, and no snow melting since then. A wonderful, stable winter. A lot of sun, and perfect conditions for cross country skiing, snow shoeing and hiking in the woods. Today the weather changed though, and the snow started blowing. Our weather forecast predicts extreme weather and a storm tomorrow morning. The storm Cora. Our plane is supposed to leave Trondheim airport at 07.30 am local time. We are crossing our fingers.......

Celebrations and the last Christmas party

Yesterday was Terje´s 62th birthday.
Today we celebrated with a family party.
Tomorrow we will pack away Christmas.
Sunday we fly south to Tenerife.

Collections and New Year resolutions

I have always loved to collect things and stuff. From tiny little stones and pinecones, marbles, stamps, books, dolls, small pigs, nativities, people´s smiles, countries to visit, columbine seeds.......you name it. I also love New Year´s resolutions, and on of the things you find on  my 2018 list is to try to organise my collections. Sort through them. Throw some away, display others. 

To help me with this, and to get an overview of what I actually have, I have made a special blog for my collections, Britt-Arnhilds samlede (in Norwegian, but the pictures are as always multilingual)

In Britt-Arnhild´s samlede today I´ll write about a collection I have of jewelry, from my childhood, from the childhood of our  kids, from my travels. The blue heart in the photo above is from my baptism. The aries to the left is a gift for my confirmation.

The bird man and the common goosander

It has been cold here today. Minus 6 Celsius during lunch break, but I put my winter coat, gloves, scarf and a hat on and went for a walk. As I have a goal to count the different types of birds I see this year, I wanted to go down to the river to see what I found.

An old man was feeding the mallards, and I stopped to watch. What fun to see the ducks eating from his hands. I could feel the inside of me smiling, the kind of smile I love :-)

Mallards, pigeons, a crow, a few seagulls.......

and then I saw it, a bird unknown to me.

A male common goosander (mergander).
Last year I saw a female, this is my first male.

Lunch in my woods

Tomorrow is back to work, but today is all mine, to do whatever I want.
Well, some housework, but to be honest, I really don´t mine, yes, I actually want to do it.....with a clean and tidy house as the reward :-)

Around noon I packed a backpack though. My journal, something to sit on, a thermos of hot chocolate and two lussekatter, safran buns from the freezer. 

The woods starts almost just behind our house, so I did not have far to go. It took me some time to reach the place where I wanted to eat though. There were so many birds to spot along the way, so many trees to enjoy and to photograph. And also, there was the silence to listen to.

We had a few snow showers this morning,
and deep into the forest I met this fairy tale world.

Nature, a focus for 2018

January 1st.
New beginnings.
Everything fresh and ready for new starts.

January 1st is my favourite day of all the year.

 

Terje and I both went out and into the woods after breakfast.
He cross country skiing.
I on my snow shoes.

Then home to watch the New Year´s concert from Wien (Vienna)

While the orchestra was playing one of our Thai neighbours came over with fresh, homemade spring rolls and we had a most fantastic lunch.

 

 

.......and now it is finally time to work on my lists, plans, dreams and hopes for the new year.

 

Two focuses for 2018 have been playing in my mind.
Trees and birds. Birds and trees.

 

Out snowshoeing this morning, in the lovely woods behind our house, in fresh, white snow, trees with snow covered branches, a purple winter light, I suddenly knew, deep in my heart, what my 2018 focus is to be.

 

NATURE

My focus this year will be nature.

 

 

Today´s pictures are what we see from our dining room table, looking over to one of the neighbours.
The small green house is my old one, the one I gave to the neighbour when Terje built me the bigger one.

 

 

I hope to share a lot of my nature focus in Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Woods,
