Seven years ago I was in Florence for the first time. I was all by myself, I had been walking all day in and out of different museums and churches and in the afternoon sat down to have a coffee at Piazza dela Republica. Even before I had ordered the coffee a woman jumped up from the table next door, coming over to my table, asking: "Are you Britt?" That was Jane, a blog reader from California, and she was with Lanny, her husband. That was the start of a life long friendship. Since then we have met in Norway twice, in California once and in Berlin once, and now we are here in Florence again, this time also with Terje.
Jane and Lanny are in Florence for three months, and during this week they have very kindly offered us to live in their rented apartment, while they have moved in with friends. This morning they came to the apartment early, with plans for us for the whole day, starting with a trip to a close my market, Sant´Ambrogio. There we walked around to Jane and Lanny´s favorite shops and stalls, and we bought fresh cheese, bread, vegetables, fruits and ham to bring back to the apartment for lunch.
Terje is quite new to the Italian food market shopping, but he is fitting in perfectly, doing a great job.
Doesn´t these tomatoes look great? The taste was soooo yummy, I could eat almost only tomatoes for lunch.
Lanny is the more experiences one :-)
Back in the apartment all four of us made ourselves busy with the preparations, and soon we were gathered around the table out in the courtyard, sharing our lunch.
.......and then we were ready for the rest of our day in Florence.
But wait a minute. Did I say that I could eat only tomatoes for lunch? Well, that was before I had tasted Jane´s special salad made of avocado, apples, onion, tomatoes and lime.
