This week Trondheim is filled with people wearing wonderful, colourful Samien outfits. February 6th is the special Day of the Sami people, and this year it is 100 years since the very first national Sami meeting. Held here in Trondheim on February 6th 1917.
The celebrations started Monday morning with a mass in the cathedral, and the blessings and prayers for a new, Sami altar.
Later in the same day was another service in the cathedral, with the King, the Prime Minister and quite a few other prominent guests.......and of course "little" me.
Last night Terje and I went to a historicel theatre performance,
today I have been shopping typical Sami food, like reindeer you know.
We have not always been proud of our indigenous people. Norway have a dark history, like so many other countries. But today we are proud, and my heart beamed when I stopped to watch kindergarten kids trying lassoing at the marketplace today.
