The night was so beautiful. I sat out in the garden, but when Marta suggested a night walk in the botanical garden, it was easy to say yes.
First we went down to the fjord to photograph the sunset, and then up in the garden to enjoy the beautiful light.
Motives everywhere.

Do you follow my squirrel blog, the blog where squirrel mother Mrs Sunflower Seed-Nut blogs about raising a family in our garden. Today´s blog post is so cute, I will translate it and share it with you :-)
"Is it possible to collect rose seeds"
These last days there has been an absolutely lovely fragrance in the garden. Somthing sweet, which tickles my nostrils.
Today I am determined to find out where this sweet fragrance comes from.
It is strongest up on the wall, so I jump up there and start looking around. To the right, to the left, up and down.......
and then I discover the beautiful rose. Suck beauty. And can you believe it, the rose is the source of the smell <3
I wonder if it is possible to collect rose seeds, to preserve them and dig them out in winter when all the fragrances of summer are gone.

37 years since the day we put our rings on.
We sat out at our cabin, had just finished dinner, it was late and we were about to go to bed
when the mood suddenly appeared.
As it rose, it followed the mountain, just like it was pushed by the hands of angels.
Almost at the top it started to fly.
Then Terje rose and picked it down to me.
The best gift of love.

Time had come for our annual visit to one of the many amazing wooden hotels in Norway. This time we decided not to visit one of the historical ones, but a place which opened only 15 years ago (an old farm restored), BesteBakken. We had read about the place already some years ago, when we stayed at Walaker hotel with our friends from California, Jane and Lanny. What caught my interest then was to read that BesteBakken sold art by Ingun Dahlin.
As I knew it would, it turn out to become a lovely stay. We arrived a few hours before dinner and had time to sit in the garden, and also to take a bath in the special bubble bath which our bathroom had. At dinner we shared a huge table with other guests, a family from Poland, a mother and daughter from Germany, two young men from Switzerland, a couple from the US and another couple from the Netherlands. Tales from all over the world were shared while we enjoyed the tasteful three course dinner.
The climax though came with breakfast the next morning. Lindis, the owner of BesteBakken, told us that her goal was to show her guests what a Christmsa breakfast in Norway is. A breakfast when the family gather around the table and eat and talk for many hours. A breakfast when you serve ALL the best food you have.
Lindis explained all the food, and let us know what should be eaten together.
We listened, and we ate and we ate and we ate and we ate,
all while I made mental notes - I want to make this, this is perfect together, what a great idea.......
We had to leave right after breakfast, other adventures were waiting, but I did have time for some photos first,
and we said goodbye to the lama outside :-)

We had not made any spesific plans for the next day, only that we would drive north and some time, probably late, we would arrive at the cabin. Looking at the map I realised that one of our choices to drive would take us right through the village where grandma Ragna Josefine was born in 1899. Long storly told short - we made some phone calls and ended up getting an invitation/inviting ourselves to visit the farm.
Grandma Ragna was born on the farm Slagstad, in Sandane on the Western coast of Norway. A farm where the main income came from growing apples. She grew up with two sisters and three brothers. Jon, or uncle Joel as my father says, grandma´s brother closest to her in age, took over the farm when he grew up, and today Jon´s son, Mattis lives there with his wife Vivi.
Mattis is my father´s first cousin, and it was easy to see the family likeness between them. I visited Slagstad when I was a girl, about 50 years ago, and I saw Mattis watching me, just as I was watching him. Both of us looking for ourselves in the other.
Vivi told me that she and Mattis came to Trondheim the weekend I was baptised. Mattis was active with sport gymnastics and they came for a competition. They stayed with my grandparents and when my perants heard they had come, they were invited to my baptism party.
58 years ago.
Here I am on that day, July 6th 1958, with grandma Ragna Josefine and grandpa Johannes.
Grandma Ragna must have been sitting here many a time. I wish I could read her thoughts from then.
As she grew up in the countryside a hundred years ago, education was actually no topic. But Ragna loved to study and when she grew up she left home, studying to become a teacher.
At the seminary she met my grandpa, Johannes Wigum. He also the son of farmers from a small farm at Aure, where we have our cabin.
Ragna and Johannes married and moved to Frey, where they raised their family of five girls and two boys, the oldest boy my father.
Three years ago I visited their house at Frey, together with my parents, and I wrote two blog posts about it. You find the posts here and here.

Vestlandet, The Western Coast of Norway is like a magnet. I love it. And I have been lucky, we go there almost every year.
On our way today, we drove over Sognefjellet, The Sognefjell Mountain. The beauty here is breathtaking. I enjoyed it with my camera, Terje would have loved to do summer skiing.
May be next time :-)
We then drove another mountain pass, Tindevegen, a toll road only open during summer.

I am tired of the sun´s hide and seek game. Now I let her play in solitude, turn my back to her and find my own games to play.
To count beauties in the garden.
We have the awning out and is dry under it while we have our coffee. The Norwegian word of awning is markise. I didn´t know the English word and had to google it. Google translate gave me awning, a word completely new to me. To make sure it was the right word I googled awning and this is what came up: An awning is a type of supplemental roof or cover that helps control intense sun exposure and heat that occurs both indoors and outdoors
Haha, our markise is never in use to control sun, nor heath, but it is perfect to keep us dry from rain :-)
Well, rain or shine, it is not difficult to find beauty in the garden just now.
I think I love this game.

It looks like this summer will be kept in the memory books as a grey, wet one. Too cold for my liking. I long for the sun, and when last night came with a blue sky, Terje, Marta and I drove downtown for a walk along the fjord.
It is nights like this I want to remember. Not the rain and the grey skies.

I had big plans to update Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Woods daily during our cabin days. But vacation is not for plans, or rather, is not for sticking to plans. So here I am, several days after my last update.
