It is so much snow here now, I think the best would have been to hibernate. But that´s not how it is in Norway. Life goes on, no matter what, and today I had to go out with the car, for as visit with my doctor, to have lunch with a friend and then to do several errands.
I made it and now it is good to be home, looking at the snow from inside :-)

It was this morning, when I sat looking out the cabin window, following the rise of the day, the desicion was made. Our cabin needs her own blog. It is Sunday night now. We are back home and I have started the prosess of creating Hytteliv på Rastarbo, Cabin life at Rastarbo. You can follow the progress here. I plan to write the blog in Norwegian, but if many of you are interested, there might be English summaries at the end of each post.
And as always, there will still be cabin posts here on Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Woods, under the category Cabin Life.

We are at the cabin now, and have started a very special task, remove the old kitchen and set up a new one
The old kitchen is from the cabin was built, in 1975, and has been in need for a change for a long time. When we installed electricity here before Christmas, we found that time was perfect to actually do the change.
The cabin is small, and our main challenge today has been to find room for everything we had in the kitchen cupbords while taking them down and setting up the new ones.
I really needed my creativity for that, but made it :-)
And while Terje started to put the new kitchen together, my next challenge came.......
.......to make dinner in a kitchen which is no longer a kitchen.

Three hours south west of Trondheim, forty minutes and a ferry ride south of our cabin, you find the charming coastal town Kristiansund. In February every year there is an opera festival here, and tonight Terje and I have tickets for Die Zauberflöte, The Magic Flute. When we came to check in at the hotel the man in the reseption smiled and said - I am going to give you a room with a view, and soon The Costal Line will arrive.
So here we are, looking very much forward to a night at the opera and then a late dinner in a fabulous fish restaurant here in Kristiansund, Sjøstjerna, The Starfish.

Two days up in the mountains. Work from early morning till late night. Outside the window the world is unfolding, tempting me to put my cross country skis on and get lost. Instead there is paper work, discussions and talks to do.
After breakfast we have 10 minutes to brush teeth and check out from our rooms. I take five of these minutes outside, with my camera. With my eyes. With my heart.

As soon as Terje hears the world snow, he is making plans for his next cross country skiing. And as soon as the first snow flakes starts to fall, he is out on his skis. I need more time. A lot more time. But I do love skiing and I do love nature, so this morning, just after breakfast, I was out with my cross country ski hero. My every day life hero.
It is a year since I had skis on my feet so I felt stiff in the beginning. But it didn´t take me long to find my old young self. After all I am Norwegian, I was born with skis on my feet.
Cross country skiing for me means finding a cosy place somewhere out in the forest where we can sit down with hot chocolate, pastries and sharing an orange.

Do you know that snow can be a lot of different things. I have heard that the Sami people have quite a few different words for it, in Norwegian we use adjectives to describe the snow. Today the snow has been kram which means that it is wet and perfect to form. After bearkfast Terje went out cross country skiing. "The day is so perfect, I plan to be out for a couple of hours" Terje said as he kissed me goodbye. Fine, I thought, two hours with my books and knitting until he is back and we can start our Saturday chores together - shopping, hoovering, baking.......
Before sitting down I had to fill the bird feeders though, and as soon as I came out into the garden I knew I could not go in again. I hadn´t made snowman in a hundreds years, not since I was a child, or at least not since the kids were toddlers, but once learnes it stays in your hands and fingers,
and soon the garden had new inhabitants, a snowman daddy, a snowman mummu and three snowmen kids, with sunflower seeds as eyes, tiny twigs as arms.
We are freezing, the dad and the youngest kid cried, and I was sent indoors to knit scarves for them.

After a night of heavy snowing, the world was so beautiful, I had to leave the bus one stop early just to be able to walk a little more in the fresh, white before spending hours inside, working.
This is the kind of winter I love. When snow is snow, not slippery ice. When everything is clean, when you wake up and the world is all new.
