Torgeir is in Japan celebrating Christmas and New Year. Japan is hours ahead of us and one year into his new year he phoned us to tell us that 2016 started out as a good year :-) Soon we will follow him into the future.

At 9am it was still dark outside. Christmas time is a time for sleeping in, but morning birds as we are, Terje and I have offered to take care of Leander in the mornings. Thirty minutes past nine the street lights were turned off and a few monites later to sky gave us its morning show.
"Oh, Terje, can you please take Leander? I need to go out in the garden with my camera." Terje was busy writing a grocery list, and another list for things we need to be before his birthday (he is turning 60 in a few days and we will have a big party), and a third list for wishes for his birthday. Terje is a list master. He put all the lists away for Leander of course, and I ran out to shower myself in the most beautiful colours the sky can give.
All the photos are "real", no filters.
And Leander is asleep now :-)

Terje´s great-grandfather, Torgrim Olsen from Grimstad, was a sailor in the days of the sailing ships. Away months at a time. If the wind was good they were busy, but when the wind died down there could be days, even weeks, with nothing to do. Great-grandpa Torgrim was never idle, he did not let the days pass with nothing to do, and over the years me made many treasures.
On a place of honor in our livingroom, we have a little treasure he made during one of the no wind periods, a house made out of tiny little puzzle pieces which he cut from old cigar boxes. For Christmas it has become the manger for Joseph, Mary and baby Jesus, and as you can see the star there, the manger had room for them.

During my month of advent posting I have been thinking quite a lot of my blog and my blogging. I have had this blog for almost 11 years now, and I have taken it along several different roads. I think 2016 will be the year for ordinary day posts. The days as they unfold, kind of like a journal, painted with an every day palette. A photo and a few words. Several photos. A tale. A thought. Nothing more. Nothing less.
The first steps along this road let me look out the diningroom window. Over to the neighbours garden and their chicken house. The little house was built this summer and filled with a few chicken and a couple of rabbits. The chickens have just started to lay their first eggs, and when I walked over there on Christmas Eve to wish the neighbours Merry Christmas, I was given an egg as a gift. In the New Year the two small girls has promised to come over and sell us fresh eggs.
Ordinary days are the best days.

Winter has finally arrived, and it brought with him beauty and cold. As the house is getting more and more empty every day now, I found time for a long walk after breakfast today. Out in the cold. Out in the beauty. Out in the blue winter day.
A walk has room for so many thoughts, and as the year is singing the song of its very last days, it is easy to let them wander back on 2015, easy to let them wander into 2016.
Most of all though I hope to let my thoughts and my mind and my heart be here and now. To see the colours of the moment.

Christmas time. Only just started. Still we have days and days ahead of us with long, late breakfasts, with days together with family and friends, with all the traditional Christmas dinners and with long nights with games, books, talks near the sparkling Christmas tree.
Our oldest son, Torgeir, is in Japan for the holidays this year, you can follow him on TravelTorgeir. Øystein has been here for a few days but went home last night after dinner. Marta is still here but will go up in the mountains tomorrow for a few days of skiing with her boyfriend and his family. Ingrid´s mother in law, Leander´s farmor, who lives in Lofoten, is still here. She came a few days before Christmas with her car filled with the most delicious fish from the Lofoten islands, and is a wonderful chef in the kitchen. And the new little family, Leander, Ingrid and Marius are celebrating Christmas with us. What a wonderful blessing to have them with us for the holidays. The best Christmas present. My parents came here on julaften, Christmas Eve to celebrate with us, and yesterday we were invited to their house. And tonight my brother Børge and his family are coming from Iceland. They will stay in Torgeir´s apartment.
Sure, it is a merry time, filled with family and love.
Thank you very much for following me though advent, opening the doors with me. It has been a lot of fun doing it with you.
Merry Christmas to each and every one of you
ps, the red and white heart in the first picture was made by Terje when he was a boy. It has hung on his parents´Christmaa tree for half a cantury, now it is brightening our tree.
