Forward Talking

In Norwegian we have the word framsnakking which translated into English means forward talking. I don´t know if these words give any meaning in English, but it is the opposite of backbiting...... ie: talking positive about someone or something.

Today I want to framsnakke/talk forward the city gardeners of Trondheim.

Our parks are amazing just now, so bright and colourful. It is a pure pleasure to walk around, "digging deep" into the flowers with all your senses. I can guarantee you pleasure.

Finally another Saturday photo walk

Finally the day was here, the day to go back to my Saturday morning photo walk routine. For many years I did this, and it even made me start the blog Trondheim Through All Seasons. But for the last couple of years the photo walks have been kind of forgotten, or not given priority. I was so eager to start it again this morning, I didn´t even have time to eat breakfast at home, but started my walk with caffe latte and a panini at Somma, an Italian café.

 So, caffe and panini eaten, it was time to start. But where? What to photograph?
All of a sudden I had no idea.........

Then I looked up, saw beauty, got an idea.........

....I will look for things I have not photographed before. Small details, hidden corners, the places you never see in postcards or guidebooks.

I was underway.

The House Sparrows

Ever since I was a little girl I have loved the house sparrows. There were a lot of them in my childhood garden, and I never tired of watching the adults feed their babies over the summer, or the young ones having a bath in a puddle after the rain.

Here in The Blue Garden I feed the birds and the squirrels all year and the garden is always filled with life and activity.

During the day there is a wide variety of different birds visiting, but somehow, the sparrows continue to be my favorites. They are common. They might seem grey, boring. But if you look closer you will se the beauty and the uniqueness of every single one of them.

Happiness is to have a man who climb the cherry tree late at night and then share the cherries with you.

 

Trondheim Through All Seasons

In July 2009 I started the blog Trondheim Through All Season, a blog where I wanted to share the deep love I have for my city. Over the years the blog has got 199 posts, the last one in March this year.

Over the year when I ran this blog I often took my camera downtown on the Saturday mornings, looking for places in Trondheim new to me, or where I seldon walk.

 It is amazing all the secret a city hides.

I think it might be time to open up Trondheim Through All Seasons again.
I plan to do a photo walk this coming weekend.

Electricity problems, kind of

During the 40 years of our cabin we have never had electricity. We do have a solar system, but it is old, and all it managed is to charge our cell phone.....if the sun is shining. As we use the cabin more and more, and we get older and older, we decided it was time to install electricity, and it is now in the making. As the cabin is built on rock it is not possible to dig the cables down in the soil, poles is the only alternative. But where to set the poles? Luckily the workmen understood that placing a huge pole in the middle of our view would not be a good thing.

They called Terje and we met them here yesterday. We found another route, which meant that four huge trees had to be cut down. Øystein is here with us, and together he and Terje started the tree cutting prosess.

They met a problem though. The tree would not fall the way Terje had planned.......

Huge trees falling down  can easily kill a man, so now we will need to have professional help.

Hopefully this will not delay the electricity too much.

26 years ago today we got our first baby girl (after two boys, before another girl)

I am celebrating the day by knitting on baby clothes for a little boy who will be born in December.

Our first grandchild :-)

 

Beetroot soup for free, almost........

One of the best soups I know is beetroot soup. And if you grow beetroots in your garden, it is all free.

Cook one beetroot per person in clean water. Blend. And serve warm with a teaspoon of sourcream (rømme) and an edible flower, or cold with a teaspoon of sourcream (rømme) and an edible flower.

So far the beetroots in my garden are too small to be harvested, so I had to by some. But next time the soup will be all for free......except for the teaspoon og rømme :-)

 

An early mobile phone

Long before the first telephone people still found ways of sending each other messages. Between 1809 and 1814, during the war agains England, you found a series of instalations like this along the coast of Norway.

A message between Krstiansund and Trondheim could be sent in a couple of hours, acyually faster than you can go there by boat today, and a lot faster than driving by car.

The systems looks intricate to me today, but was actually quite easy to learn and the understand. By rising and/or lowering the black squares you made certain numbers, the numbers had certain meanings, all written down in a list. Like signal 64 - the enemy might force himself into the fjord north of Kristiansund.

I love signal 104 - rye is needed at the bakery in Kristiansund

To cover the coast a line of instalations were set up.

 

Do we ever think of this history when we use our cell phones today?
