Friends of us have bought a summer appartment at Inderøy, a penninsula in the Trondheimsfjorden, a couple of hours to drive from us. They are spending their summer vacation there and invited us to come for a visit. Yesterday we had no other plans, and decided to spend the day with Inger and Roger.

 

Let us know if there are anything special you want to see during the day, Inger texted me a few days ago. I never got around to reply to her message, and I am glad I didn´t, for Inger and Roger had made plans for us. Great plans.

Like taking us to a garden filled with plants, flowers, glass, metal and a lush of creativity.

As we walked around, my eyes got bigger and bigger.....

.....and bigger and bigger.......

.....and bigger and bigger.

In the end I had to pinch my arm.

My camera was busy. There were so many things I wanted to remember. Ideas I wanted to bring home to The Blue Garden, or just keep in my heart for rainy days.

Today, after work and dinner I eagerly started to do a few whimsical changes in my own garden.

No big changes, but the small touches,
here, there, everywhere.

PS - the difficult part of writing this post has been to limit the photos. I want to show them all, or even better, I want to take you to this very special garden :-)

 

The Garden Party

When we invite to a garden party in The Blue Garden, rain and cold usually arrive as the first guests. Yesterday both of them were busy elsewhere, good luck for us.

Last winter there was this crazy "jump into the sea" think going on on facebook. My brother, the pastor up north on the Lofoten islands took part and jumped into the icy cold North Sea and afterwards he challenged me to do the same "and if you don´t jump, you owe me a three course dinner!"

Simple choice!

So yesterday, on our 34th anniversary, we had a garden party in The Blue Garden.

 First course: borscht

Main couse: barbecuing sausages on the new "fire pan", chops and corn on the cop on the Weber grill, potato salad and green salad

Dessert: rhuburb pie and ice cream

 

Perfect combination of challenge and anniversary :-)

 

34 years…..

A City Filled with Music

I didn´t know, but when I walked downtown after work today it took me no time to realise that Trondheim was filled with music. A National Brass Band Festival.

When I grew up every school had their own brass band. It is not like that any more, but still there are many of them, and today they coloured the air in Trondheim.

 

I am not a brass band fan actually, but listening to them live, in the sun....oh, I love it. 

On every square, in every park, music floated.

After a long while I phoned Terje. He was still at work. "May I invite you downtown for dinner....out in the river?"

He is never hard to invite this man of mine.

And a perfect day became even better.

 

Like an Open Book

First I walked through the house with my cell phone. And I had to agree with Terje, there are books everywhere in the house. I even almost agreed that there might be too many books.

Then I started to sort the books.
Chaos slowly became order.

After a while I found a bag for the books I was willing to give away.

Soon I had two full bags.

Not long afterwards I had three.

Then I sat down on my computer, creating an event on facebook.

The new bookcafé som en åpen bok/Like an Open Book
will be open tomorrow from 6 till 8pm

Now, a few hours later, I am wondering what I´ve done.....

..... but so far nobody has said that they are actually coming.

 

The Trondheim Rose and the Trondheim Blog

When I passed "my" Trondheim´s rose, the old rose which I loved during my whole childhood, and still do, I know it is time to re-open Trondheim Through All Seasons.

Art in The Blue Garden

This onion is decorating my garden with art.
I have searched the internet for English names for it, here in Norway we call it luftløk, or air onion. What I have found is tree onion, top setting onion, walking onion and Egyptian onion.

What do you call it?

 

I think I am going to baptise it The Blue Garden´s Art Onion.

 

St.Hans aften…..

St.John, St.Johannes, St-Hans.......and there you have St.Hans-aften. St.John´s Eve. The 23rd of June, the night we celebrate Midsummer Night in Norway. Don´t ask me why. But it has been like this, always. And we forget that the longest day in the year is June 21st. For Norwegians it is June 23rd, St.Hans aften.

We are back from the cabin, and Terje, Marta and I have celebrated like I always doid when I was a child, not with a fire barbequeing sausages like most Norwegian, but with rømmegrøt, sour cream porride, made like grandma Olga taught me to make it. (follow the link and you will get the recipe)

 

Midsummer flowers

In between the rainshowers we did a hike, and picked a bouquet of midsummer flowers.
