I had lunch downtown with my mother yesterday. As we walked up the main shopping street we passed the accordion player, the man who always sits there on the same spot, playing such beautiful music. I stopped, found my purse, took out some coins and threw them into the box close to the musician. Our eyes met, and we both smiled.
as we continued our walk, my mother said: "It looked like the two of you know each other?" "Of course we do" I replied, "we exchange smiles.

I went to the most wonderful concert last night, Emma Kirkby singing, Jakob Lindberg playing the lute. The concert was in a small room, I guess we were around 150 people. I loved it. I went alone, and I mostly sat with my eyes closed, letting the music fill me. I left during the break though. There was too much strong perfume in the room. I got a headache, my sinuses protested wildly.
I came out to a dark, almost quiet city, where snow fell silently. I had half an hour to wait for my bus, so I walked around. I have lived in Trondheim more than 50 years. I know my city so well. Its nooks and corners, its open squares, its hidden secrets. Last night it all felt new.
I was sad because of the perfume which forced me to leave the concert. I was happy and thankful to walk in this beautiful city of mine at the late hour. The snow flakes took away the perfume still clinging to my hair, my face, my clothes. Emma Kirkby´s voice still filled my head.
I wish perfume could be banned.
I love the perfume of nature. Like the one flowing out from the forthysia in the picture. It was taken at our cabin a previous spring. Tomorrow we are heading for the cabin for the first time this year. I wonder what we will find, winter or spring.

Thanks to Terje´s phonecall and my action, the greenhouse made it :-), and hopefully spring will be back soon. The plants I had inside the greenhouse are now keeping warm in our hallway.
While Marta was out photographing me the other day, I asked her to take photos of two of our next door houses, as they were almost covered in snow. When I look at the pictures now it is like looking at cakes with icing. If you come over we can have a cake party......

All these months without snow, and now when I really started to believe that spring was here, look what happens!
And with Terje away, travelling somewhere, I had no choice....the snow had to be shovelled.
Snow, snow and snow are all different things. This snow was wet and heavy, and beliebe me, shoveling was hard work.
I was exhaused when I was done.
I went inside, I sat down getting my breath back, starting to think about making some afternoon coffee.....
....when Terje called: "BrittArnhild, I´ve heard that the snow in Trondheim is wet and heavy. Have you remembered to shovel the greenhouse roof? It is important to do it, or the greenhouse might break down!"

Thank you for the comments and emails. I knew you where there, of course I knew. It just felt so lonely when I didn´t hear anything from you......if you see what I mean.
I will keep on with the path which is mine, the path where I blog about life, about living, about being a human being on this Mother Earth of ours. The path where I blog about the small things in my tiny little corner of the world, and the path which takes me out, east of the sun, west of the moon.
And to start with I will share with you a secret photo which I have on my phone, a photo I took last time I visited my parents. My mother knows that I always ask her to play the piano when I am there, and this time she could tell me that the night before she had started practicing on a new piece of music. "It is difficult though" she said, "and I am not mastering it yet. And there are so many pages, it is hard both to play and to turn the sheets."
My father sat in the sofa with me and Terje. When my mother started to play he smiled, just the way he can smile. "Isn´t she great!" he whispered, and then he walked over to the piano to help with the turning.
Some days ago I shared with you my brother´s video of mother playing Grieg. Here is another one, this time Sibelius is the composer. Again my brother is behind the camera.

The lent blogging with image and music seem not to be a good idea. The youtube videos are huge and makes the site harder to open, and the number of site visit is falling drastically (typepad has a site where I can see the number of visitors to my blog through the day) And I miss the day when I walk around knitting up ideas of what to post about, what to share.

Winding yarn and knitting up ideas like taking you into my greenhouse, telling you about the bird chorus which woke me up today, sharing snow photos of a winter which did not come untill March 15 this year.....or like showing you my textile collection which I know I have promised to do, sharing the breakfast table I am about to set for me and Terje in a few minutes......
....or.....well, what do you want to read about? That is, if you still are there....... may be it is time for me, for us, to go on to something else?
I know I have asked you this questions before, in other ways, but as a blogger of soon to be 10 years, in a digital world which is changing fast, I think it is essential to ask these questions.
I will let this post stay on top for a while, waiting for your feedback, and then I will continue the path from there.....old or new.

I am on a sick leave for the moment, with time at hand to sit down, to walk, to reflect, to be. Today my best friend has been here for lunch. We ate, we knitted, but most of all we talked.
Ta have a best friend is one of the blessings in life. To have several is another blessing. To share part of yourself, to be given part of the other.
Because of all the youtube videos the Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Wood´s site might be hard to open. My music today will be the workds of friends. Your words as they travel accross the ocenas. Let is sit down under Seljamannfoss, the Seljamann Waterfall (in Iceland) and share from our heart.
If you were sitting there with your best friend, on the old bench, listening to the falling water - what would you talk about?

Not far from The House in the Woods, close to the Granåsen Ski Arena (where there was a FIS World Cup in ski jump last weekend), there is a small pond where the ducks love to spend their winters. This golden photo is from a couple of weeks ago, taken during one of my walks. Today I use it to illustrate Chopin´s Piano Concerto No 1 e-moll. At times the music might sound more dramatic then the photo, at other times the sound of the piano goes perfect with the sun playing in the lake.

This winter we have got a new Book of Hymns in The Church of Norway. The singer Helga Johanne Størdal and a few of her musician friends have collected a few of the new hymns and made them into the CD "No stig vår song". The hymn I am sharing, "there is an earth" was the only one I found on youtube, so here it is for all of you.
I was out walking along the river Nidelven the other day, with my camera as always. Spring is slowly arriving in our corner of the world. My favorite season, a season when all of me, my whole body, is rejoycing, a season when everything smells new, fresh, a season of hope, of beliefs.
After long, dark winter months I start to breath with my stomack again,
and my smile wrinkles get deeper.
