Imagine that you have a heap of stones in your backyard. They have been there always, since the dawn of time. You have lived with the stones all your life, you have made up tales around them, you have hidden your secrets among them. As a child you went to the stones to make your treasure hunt maps, or you sat down to cut your paper dolls. Then one day the aothorities need your backyard for a new road, they need the space and they need the stones in their constricting. You try to protest - these stones are sacred, they were built thousands of years ago, can´t you see they are pyramids, where shall I now worship the sun.........
Back in 1990, when Thor Heyerdahl lived in Peru, he was contacted by a group of farmers in Güimar on Tenerife. They sent him a newspaper article where Heyerdahl read about some terraced structures which the farmers wondered were pyramids. Heyerdahl had for a long time claimed that there had been a link between the European and American continents long before Columbus. He went to Tenerife and was sure that the lava stones he found were remains of pyramids.
Years later the Norwegian shipowner, and friend of Heyerdahl. Fred Olsen, bought the land and made it into a park.
And more years later still, Terje and I visited the park.
So much history.
So many questions.
So many tales told in the stones.
So much to study.
So many thoughts.
