A Time to Every Purpose

To everything there is a season, there is a time to every purpose under heaven.
This is a lesson I have to learn again and again.

I have some problems with a shoulder and when I went to see my doctor yesterday, he gave me a one week sick leave. This is not at all how I had planned my life to be just now, my purposes don´t fit in. According to my own plans this is not the sick leave season.

 

I walked through the cathedral park again this morning, stopping up when I came to this crooked old tree (you have seen it before). A melody started to form in my head and soon I found myself humming..........tum, tum, tum

 

 

Not - a time to all my purposes,
but a time to every purpose.

 

I am still an apprentice.........on my way though life.

Cafe au lait and a journal

There are many different pastimes. Some collect stamps, some bake cupcakes, some climb Kilimanjaro and some count money. I have several hobbies. One of them is to sit at a café or a coffee house. With a caffe latte, a book and my journal. While I sip my coffee I love to watch people.

Today, while I sat at Kaffebrenneriet, an old couple came in. She wore an elegant fur coat, he had a sheepskin coat and a walking stick. The man walked over to the counter and ordered, with a strong French accent and in a charming mixture of French, Norwegian and English: " Varm chocolade.....et pour moi en little espresso.....nei, no cream på chocoladen......."

I listened, and I let my mind wander. Who were these people, how is their lives, their home, why are they here.......... and a tale unfold......in my head....

....and in my journal.

 

A mother to daughter thing

Ingrid´s fiancee is named Marius. The perfect name for a young man to wear the knitted Marius pattern. Marius´ mother is a talented knitter and she has made him the sweather. Then, last winter, Ingrid came to me, asking: "can you help me to nit a Marius hat?"  I did, and I am sure some of you remember this post ;-)

This weekend she came again: "Mamma, can you teach me how to knit socks with the Marius pattern? I want to knit a pair for Marius."

Britt-Arnhild´s House in the Woods is my main blog, the one I update every day. But from time to time there is a busy activity on the other blogs as well. Like Books on the Menu for instance, where I write about books which mean something special for me. Like Blåklokkeveien, my Norwegian blog which got its name from my childhood street, like Min Bibel, also in Norwegian, where I read through the Bible, one chapter every day. In Britt-Arnhild´s Blue Garden I walk through my garden, showing one photo every day, adding just a word or two, Caffe Avec, my blog of creativity. And so on, and so on. You find all the links on the sidebar list.

Some blogs have been sleeping for a long time. Others have been quite active lately.

All of them love visitors,
and comments.

 

A travel diary

In a few days Marta is going to Kenya with a group from The Salvation Army here in Trondheim. They will visit projects in Nairobi, and they will go on a Safari, right inside My Africa-land. Together we have made a list of "must haves" before going, and today it was time to go downtown for shopping. After we had finished the long list it was time to sit down for coffee, and while we were there Marta shared with us the itinerary for her 12 days in Kenya. She will travel with 15 other youths and a few grown ups, and I am sure this will be a life changing experience for all of them.

There was one thing missing on Marta´s list.
A diary, a travel diary where she can write down her experiences.
I wanted to buy her one, but she refused. "Mamma, I know you love to write, but I am not you."
She is right of course. She will bring a camera, she will have a lot to tell when she comes home, and if I had travelled with her, I would have written it all down.

But I am not. And Marta will find her own way of travelling.

It has been a long, busy week. But now it is Friday, and I have no plans for the weekend. No plans except reading, cooking, photo walks, chats with my husband, may be a film, some music, the kids over for a meal..........

.....and then reading of course.

I got a letter from my dear mother India the other day, with a book review of Flora´s Empire, a book about British gardens in India. Carolyn know I love this book and that it inspired me to visit Lal Bagh, the botanical garden in Bangalore.

 

I read most of my books with pen and post-its. Flora´s Empire is no exception. And the more I read, the more I want to continue to read.

One book is leading me over to another.

My family know about my collections, and they believe I am a bit crazy.
I am glad they don´t know the full range of strange books I have......

....or the way I read them :-)

My brother Frode

My brother Frode, who is the oldest of my three brothers, who is 22 months younger than me, who is a pastor up north in Norway, is an amazing photographer.

My brother Frode often shares his photos on facebook.
And when he does, he always makes me want to leave everything and move to Lofoten.

My brother Frode lives in the most beautiful corner of our amazing world.

I have often challenged my brother Frode to start a blog, but he refuses, just as my husband refuses to attend facebook.....I don´t know what it is about these men of my life.......

Today my brother Frode refused again. But then I asked him: "Why don´t you send me some of your photos, and I can share them with my blog readers."

He did.
And here they are!

Ducks in the river

The ice has gone, only small patches here and there are left, for the ducks to rest on, for me to enjoy the cracking music. The first day of the bishop´s visitation is over, thank you for your comments yesterday. We continue today, and as the first meeting is over in my local church, Kolstad, it only take me 15 minutes to walk there, so I have some extra time this morning.

A body was found in the river yesterday. Probably the missing woman.
Life in Trondheim is getting back to normal.

And I don´t quite know what to blog about........
