In my Min Bibel project I have come to Matthew 6, where Jesus teaches us to pray.
Give us this day our daily bread.
Say it again: give us this day our daily bread.
Not give me today my daily bread, but us, give US today OUR daily bread.
While working on the Bible post, I thought of a visit I had to Laos, and how we shared our bread with the munks in Luang Prabang. This was back in 2004, and my photos are on a series of cds. I have been looking through them now, and memories are running like a fresh, clean river.
As I look though the photos, I am amazed to see how many of them are about food. And not only food, but about sharing, to be given, eating together.
My memory continue to flow. I remember other travels. Other meals.
Many of them already recorded here in Britt Arnhild´s House in the Woods. All of them recorded in my heart.
Give us this day our daily bread.
I came home from Oslo last night. My taxidriver from the airport was from Somalia. I told him I have recently been to Ethiopia and he was very enthusiastic. "Oh, you have been to Ethiopia. That´s my neighbour country. Like Norway and Sweden. How did you find it?" and without time to wait for my answer, he continued, "What do you think of the food? Did you try this flat bread, this bread which looks like a pancake, did you try injerra?"
I told him how much I love injerra, and his proud, beaming smile, warmed the air between us.
Sharing food.
Sharing food tales.
Taking care of food traditions.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And make us share with the whole wide world.
All photos are from my travel to Laos in 2004.
