After I posted yesterday´s post, I got an idea. Our main newspaper, Adressa, has written so much about The Philippines, Tacloban, Streetlight and Erlend Johannessen these last few days, why don´t I contact them and tell about the small group of students, their disappoinment and their commitment now to help the street children affected by the typhoon?
I wrote an email, about the group of students, about their excitement for months while they have been preparing for this, their disappointment, their commitment to raise money for Streetlight and I continued - since you have written so much about Streetlight and the typhoon over the last couple of days, why don´t you make something about these student? This way you can help them with their very important fund raising!
A few moments later, Ingrid and Marius came on a surprise visit. I invited them to have dinner with Marta and me, Marius ran over to our local grocery store to buy some extra chicken. I boiled rice, fried the chicken, made a sauce, did the table.....and we had a lovely meal, talking about The Philippines and the children there of course.
Afterwards we sat down to watch the news. Would there be any words from Streetlight. No, there were not. There is still no power, still no working phones, and even as I write this Sunday morning, we have heard absolutely nothing.
While we sat there Ingrid´s phone rang. We could see from her face that she was surprised, but as she took the phone with her and went into another room, we could not hear what she was talking about. She was away for a long time. Then she came back and said, with surprise in her voice: It was Adressa. They were interviewing me.
And if you don´t read Norwegian, you can copy the link into google translate or something similar, and have it in English.
As I wrote yesterday, if you want to support the fund raising done by Ingrid and her friends, you can go to their facebook site and get more information. But if you are outside Norway, the best thing is to find a local organization to support. Like Save the Children.
