One of many things I love about Italy is the cooking. Restaurant meals, pizzas, the sharing of recipes.......but most of all being invited home for meals made on fresh ingredients for the season. I came to Bassano and to Antonella and Francesco right in the middle of the asparagus season. Not the green, often a little dry asparagus we get here in Norway, imported from Italy, but fat, fresh, lush, almost white asparagus filled with a flavour of tastes from heaven.
A week ago today, last Sunday, Antonella and I sat out in the garden with our books, we really share a passion here, while Francesco was busy in the kitchen, cooking lunch. Risotto with asparagus. "This is the asparagus season, of course you must try our asparagus" Francesco said.
First a starter, then the risotto. Francesco, you are a great cook! You are welcome any time to come up here to cook for us :-)
Yes, it must be heaven - having a man cooking for you while you sit out in the garden reading. Or like I have just now - a man making brekafast while I blog! Aren't we lucky Antonella :-)
By the way; what are you reading right now? I am finishing Marina Fiorato's The Botticelli Secret, and afterwards I plan to go back to Dickens, or Freya Stark, or.........
