Do you know the legend about the day when God painted the snow? When we arrived in Copenhagen on Tuesday we were told that it was Denmarks first day of spring. That morning the new leaves of the beeches had the size of a Danish "tokroning" (coin), the Danish official sign of spring. We started to talk about other signs, and a woman in my group mentioned the legend of when God painted the snow white.
The legend was new to me, instantly it found its way to my heart though, I love legends.
Later, much later, I sat on the small plane from Copenhagen to Trondheim. This was while you still could fly......:-) In the seat next to me sat an elderly man. We got something to eat, I sat back, planning to sleep when I noticed the man reaching into the pocket of the seat in front of him, searching for paper. He found the small paperbag which is always there (just in case), and started to write. A poem. In English. He wrote fast. Stopped from time to time to think. Wrote some more.
He captured me. Writing always does. Who was this man? A famous writer? Suddenly I knew - if he could write on a plane, so could I. I found my notebook, I always carry one in my purse, folded down the small table in front of me, and looked out of the window for inspiration. Then it happened. Words for the legend about the day when God gave the snow its white colour came flying. On angels wings. I started to write and the words came, all of them carried on golden feathers. One page after another. The words got life. How God painted his world, forgetting the snow first.
Do you know the legend?
Do you have a favorite legend to share?
The words which came on angel wings will be part of my book.
