Last week I went out into the countryside with two of my colleagues. We had a meeting which would start with lunch. It was a snowy morning and we started early, I don't like snowy, icy roads and as I was the driver I wanted to make sure that we had time enough.
We arrived 45 minutes early. "No problem" we told each other, "we can always have a cup of coffee while waiting". Well, the no problem ended up as a challenge.....the local café was closed, the man running it was in hospital. We looked at each other, what to do next.......too cold for walking outdoors for so long.......we wouldn't go over to the meeting house to disturbe the meeting which was already going on there......a bit uncomfortable to wait in the car......
"Let's take a look in the local grocery store" was my suggestion, "at least we can be indoors, and there will always me something to look at. May be they even serve coffee?" We did, found no coffee there untill my colleague went over to the lady behind the counter "we are here for a meeting and are searching for coffee, the café is closed and I see you have no coffee here either"........."of course we have coffee" was the prompt answer, just sit down at the table there in the corner and give me a couple of minutes. Of course I will make coffee for you" :-)
With the coffee and some chocolate the church warden arrived as well. "I heard you have arrived, welcome to our village"
I am a city girl. I love th cafés, the people, all what is going on.........but I fully see the charm of the countryside, where people make coffee when you come, where people see you, let you know that they see you, make you feel seen and welcome.
Let's never forget to country life style.....to see and acknowledge each other.
Happy Day!
