There is a small chapel in the old part of the Archbishop's Palace. It's status as a chapel is new, only a few years. In old times, many hundred years ago, it probably used to be the archbishop's kitchen.
Can you see the open door? You have to bed to walk into the chapel.
Once inside, the first thing to catch your eyes is a burnt Jesus Christ on the cross. There was a fatal fire in the Archbishop's Palace in 1985, two of the four old houses burnt down, an innumerable account of treasures were destroyed. The fire stopped when it reached Jesus.
(Some years later two new buildings were raised, and in 1997 the bishop and the diocese administration moved in with their offices. That's where I work today)
During the summer months the chapel is open every day, but now it is too cold and only opened on special occations.
I had a meeting for the deacons in the diocese yesterday and we wanted to start with a prayer in the chapel. A couple of weeks ago I sent an email to the ones responsible and asked them to heat the chapel for us, and was granted heating. Somehow things were mixed up, so when I came there an hour before the prayer it was icy cold.
The cold didn't matter actually. We all wore our coats, scarves, hats and gloves, being together in songs, readings and prayers kept us warm, and it is only charming, kind of living art, that your breathing is white when it comes out of your mouth, isn't it :-)
Turn around from the crusifiction and you see some modern art; Jacob's Ladder. In my mind I collect images of Jacob's Ladder........there are so many different ones.
I love this chapel. I wouldn't mind if it was open all year and I could start and end my working days in here. In prayer. With God.
I am not forgetting about the giveaway. Will chose one during the week-end. Promise! Cross my heart!
