We went to a party last night, my aunt Oddrun's 75th birthday. Her brother in law was there, a world traveller. During his 70 years he has visited ALL the countries in the word, ALL the states in USA. "How many countries?" I asked. "195, or 196" was his answer, "It depends on how you count. If you count West Sahara as a country of its own I have been to 196".
The world traveller had a springriver of stories to tell, and I sat there openmouthed listening. I mentioned several countries where I have been, after all I have travelled quite alot, and he had been everywhere, he had stories to tell from everywhere. I was thrilled, I was captured, I was mesmerized.
Some years ago he, his wife and their daughter drove from Norway to China and back again, just to check if it was possible to drive this distance. On their way there they drove through Soviet, then while they were in China, Sovie suddenly became history and back to Norway again alot of new states were forming, among them Russia.
Another time they packed their car, brought an atlas and drove down to Africa with a goal to drive through as many countries as possible on the African continent. They managed 37.
I want to travel the world. I have been dreaming all night, all morning about travels. My next travel is coming up in a few weeks, Italy with Terje and Marta, continuing to Austria when they fly back to Norway. A few more travels are panned, but there is one slowly forming in my mind. To a place where I've never been but dreamed of for years.
I might tell you more tomorrow.
