It is beautiful at evening to walk out along the bed of the sea - now all slippery hay coloured grass, with curving dykes, to Camber Castle, the grey trefoil which lies midway between Rye & Winchelsea. The grey of this old stone fuses the landscape, if, writing in haste and private, I may so outrage - is this sense or sound? - All the view that it has a lovely pallor - whites & silver greens - plae straw colour; the pearl white sheep make the highest light in the landscape...........
