We have met many times, always we discuss food. How to grow potatoes, what to add to the fish sauce to give it the special heavenly taste, when to pick wild berries. I have learned old secrets and have shared some of my new ones.
Yesterday I was invited to his home for dinner. Secret menu, long anticipation, but I was allowed to come early to look, to learn, to taste.......and to talk food.
Carrots from his rectory garden. There hee also grows potatoes, three different types. "Molt" was the right choice for the fish dish. Delicate white wolf-fish marinated though the day in white wine, vinegar and olive oil, covered with salt, pepper, parsley and onion. A sauce out of this world. And I have learned its secrets!
Dinner around the big kitchen table, the family gathered. Two guests, the bishop and I. Eating. Sharing stories. Friendship. Silence to enjoy the food.
