Orto Botanico in Padova saw light for the first time in 1545 and is the oldest botanical garden in Europe. The garden has kept much of its original design, and is filled with majestetic, old trees.
From the guidebook I read: "Foremost among the old trees is certainly the Palm of St.Peter, planted in 1585 and protected by an octagonal conservatory. It is called Goethe's Palm because the famous German poet after having seen it in 1786, spoke of it in his Travels in Italy.
Wandering among such age and beauty is hard to describe in words. I sat down with my travel diary several times to write down bits and pieces, I read through the small guide I was given when I bought my ticket, but most of all I let the garden speak its own life.
Huge trees and small potted plants - I am charmed by both.
Gates for beginnings and endings.
A souvenir: a small cut off from a lemon granium has travelled to a Blue Nordic Garden and will let its roots grow there.
