I have always said about myself that I love reading books. And I love owning the books I read. Which means that there are books everywhere in our house. "Mum" says Ingrid "When friends of mine come here for the first time they are making eyes when they see all the books. And they wonder who reads them all" She is a little embarrassed. She used to have alot of books in her room, as long as I was in charge of "the design" of it. Nowadays she has a small shelf for both books and dvds. Only a few books, alot of dvds.
"I need a new bookshelf" I say to Terje. "Where can we put it?" "Hm, don't you think we have enough books now?" he replies.
More bookshelves or not. I keep on buying books. I do borrow from friends and from the library from time to time. But that's not the same. A book is totally different when you own it yourself. You know the smell, you know how it feels to hold, you now the coffee stains and the pencil marks and the donkey ears (Do you say donkey ears in English????)
After my Booktalk on a Sunday this week I got a long, nice e-mail from a kindered spirit. She talks about the books she is reading right now:
When I got home, I began reading 2 other books I also brought home with me. I started a third book while at the library. I have two books on my bedside table that I am reading. The breakfast table has 2 or 3 others in progress. Then there are the stacks of books eagerly awaiting their turns to be read. Not to mention the older ones that are in the bookcases. Did I mention to you that at the antique shop, my specialty is antiquarian books? Am I a reader?
Truly a woman after my heart :-) Yes, she is a Reader, and so am I!
Must stop here, Terje is calling my name: "Britt-Arnhild, I am cleaning the hearth, what shall I do with the stacks of books in front it?" I am tempted to call back: "What about buying a new bookshelf?
If you want to see ALOT of books, take a look over at Sonia's Leaves of Grass.
And don't forget Caring Bloggers Rose Day the 10th of May. Shabby has made the cutest button to mark the day. I have managed to show it in the right sidebar here (made it into a photo album), but I have no idea how to make links in the photo or the words above to take you to more information about the Rose Day..........
