Marta is doing her homework with shining eyes, a smile showing from time to time. She is exploring art. Her task was to find a painting she likes and tell about it, about it's colours, what it looks like, why she likes it.
I showed her my collection of art books and asked her what kind of painting she thought she was looking after, and after some back and forth she decided on Edvard Munch. She flipped through the book several times, it was hard to decide, but in the end she was determined - it had to be this Winterlandscape from Kragerø. "I like this one mum because of its colours and because it shows that spring is coming"
Her interest in arts and paintings is perfect timing now just before her first visit to Venice. This will help her to meet La Serinissima with open eyes and an open mind.
Edward Munch is not the only famous Norwegian Edward. The other is Edward Grieg. This year it is 100 years since Grieg died, and my mother tributed this for me Sunday night when I had supper with my parents, playing several of Grieg's piano pieces for me.
Music, paintings, colours, art.......what a blessing the have it surrounding us.
