Advent is a period of time to be together. We invite family and friends over for meals and talks, and we take extra care to make every day dinners special.
Yesterday I went to the fishmarket downtown after work to buy cod. Cod, potatoes and lefse is a favorite meal in our family. Even the kids loved it during their early childhood when none of their friends liked fish.
Instead of rushing home to start dinner preperations I slowed down. Did an extra walk in town enjoying the enlighted Christmas streets and window decorations, took the bus home and felt sad for the two young mothers on the seats behind me when they discussed what Christmas would be like this year with their kids celebrating with their fathers, came home to read e-mails and do some tidying in the livingroom to make room for Christmas decorations. And finally started dinner.
This morning I woke to another filled advent basket. One of the things in the basket today are the Christmas curtains for the livingroom window. I plan to iron them and hang them now, and then it is time to start making breakfast around the huge diningroom table. My parents are coming over for advent breakfast and the lightning of the first candle in the advent wreath.
On December 2nd last year Marta snow bathed! This year the global warming is giving us spring like temperatures.
