I am ordained as a deacon in the church of Norway. A deacon in my church is it's own occupation, not a step on the road to become a priest.
For many years I worked in a congregation here in Trondheim, doing social work, sent out by my church. Every Sunday I served during the holy service together with the pastor, and my main duty was to help in the communion. People were given bread by the priest, I gave them wine, "This is the blood of Jesus".
Being God's servant, serve at the table, is one of the most meaningful tasks I ever do. The last seven years I have been working in the diocese administration though, which means that I don't serve regularly in the church service any more. Therefore the last few weeks have been a blessing. Due to different circumstances I have served in three different service where my main task again has been to serve at the table. A blessing which lifts my life closer to the holiness.
