During our week in Istanbul we visited Chora church, and there, through an amazing series of mosaics, we learned about Anna and Joakim, the parents of Mary. By the way, Mary is called Maria in Norway, a name I find so much more beautiful than Mary, so that´s what I will call her also when I use English :-)
Anna and Joakim had no children, but when they were old they were both visited by an angel, announcing that they would have a daughter.
When they met after the angel had left them, they ran towards each other, and Joakim gave his wife a warm, affectionate kiss.
This is such a wonderful love story.
I am searching for litterature about Anna and Joakim, and also about Maria, their love baby.
In one of my blogposts over in BrittArnhild´s House in the Woods, while we were in Barcelona, I mentioned Colm Tóibín´s Homage to Barcelona. I have read several of Tóibín´s books and like his style and blog reader Mary sent me an email telling me that he has written a book about Maria which she was sure I would like.
I am reading it now:
The Testament of Mary
Maria is following me through the day. I read what I find of her in the Bible, and I search where I can for more.
And while learning more about Maria, and idea is conceived.......
