Orhan Pamuk´s book The Museum of Innocence came in 2008. Four years later, in April 2012 Pamuk opened a museum in Istanbul with the same name; The Museum of Innocence. Here he has gathered items which he writes about in the book, starting with 4213 cigarette butts, cigarettes smoked by one of the characters in the book, continuing with 83 different rooms, one room for each chapter in the book.
When I was in Istanbul in August this year, I met my blogging friend Pinar. She took me around, proudly showing me her city. During our tour she pointed out a building and said: "Look, there is the museum Pamuk has made after writing The Museum of Innocence".
I had not read the book, I had never heard of the museum, but information like this always alerts me in a -I simply MUST learn more about this - way.
Back home I found the book in my shelves, I have most of Orhan Pamuk´s books, though I have read only a few.....so far (for sure, I have a lifetime of perfect reading hours ahead of me). I had too much to read just then, and almost forgot about it.
Almost forgot about it........until today. I am having a day off. Outside my windows a typical autumn day is unfolding, rain and sun hand in hand, a perfect day for reading.
The Museum of Innocence captured me from the first page. How could it not. Read and see for yourself.
And know I know for sure; I need to go back to Istanbul.
I have a museum to visit. And I have a blogging friend I want to spend more time with :-)
You can read more about my week in Istanbul here.
And about The Museum of Innocence here
