I had never been to Grece. I had never read a book by a Greece author.
Now I´ve done both.
After we had booked our trip to Athens I went over to Ann Morgan´s blog, A Year of Reading the World, to see what she read for her Greek book, and there discovered Kassandra and the Wolf. Described as a contemporary classic of Greece, it was easy to chose it for my book of the country.
The book was not an easy one to read though. Or rather, easy enough with its 130 short pages, but so strange I struggled to find out what the book is actually telling. I still struggle.
The words are told by 6 years old Kassandra, a girl living with her grandparents in Athens. By following her tale we are led into the dark and at times grotesque part of being a little girl, struggling to coming to terms with her life. What is real? What is fantasy? What are dreams?
I must confess I have no idea.
May be you better read Ann Morgan´s post about the book:
