Long ago, when the men were away at the war, Alma began painting the women of the town. Alice, his favorite, returned his attention, and when her husband George came home from the war, he set out to prove his love and reclaim his wife by moving a hill to improve the view for her - with a spade and a wheelbarrow.
This text is written on the back cover of the book, and it is also the start of the book reviews I found when googling Paint Your Wife. Unfortunately for me this is another book I found boring, or may be not exactly boring, but I kind of couldn´t get the story. After reading a few reviews now I see the story a bit more clear, but still.....well, I am not sure.
Now, a decade later, the townspeople, looking to escape varois corners of despair, turn to Alma´s drawing classes and, in doing so, learn to rediscover each other.......
and then come what I think is the key to read the book.......
.......For when you draw, the only thing that matters is what lies before you.
Hm.......may be I should give it another try. Or at least rethink what I have just read :-)
