Reading my way through the world is a challenge in more than one way. Finding time to read almost 200 books, fining books from every single country, and as I have also realized, spending money on buying all these books.......
We are spending the weekend at the cabin, and when, while looking through my bookshelves here, I found a small paper back from 1979 with fables from The Democratic Republic of Congo, I decided to include it in my project. The fables are traditional tales, mostly about animals, told while sitting around ths camp fire at nights. And their goal is to teach right from wrong, good from bad. The fables in the book is collected by the late American missionar Wudene Keidel, and since the author is not from the mentioned country, it is on the border on the rules of my project. But she is only the collector. The fables have originally been told by the natives, so I let it pass :-)
Keidel collected the fables to teach about God, and after every fable she has written some words about what we are to learn from the tale. As the book was written in 1979, when the name of the Democratic Republic of Congo was Zaire) and feels a bit oldfashioned today, I decided to skip her afterwords and just let the fables speak to me freely.
