In my last blog post I wrote about Virginia Woolf, Monk House and In The Orchard. Today I continue down the apple tree lane with Susan Hill´s The Magic Apple Tree, A Country Year. This book was first published in 1983, and has today the charmed, worn feeling of British, romantic country life as it used to be. Susen Hill, her husband and one daughter leaves to city to live in a small village cottage, Moon Cottage, with a garden, and in the book we follow them through the year.
A countryside book, a country book, a village book, a garden book, a recipe book, a family book, a one year journal. You can give this book all those names. But most of all it is a book perfect for those nights when you sit near the fire, snow falling silently outside, on your table is a full pot of tea or may be a mug of hot chocolate......and the only thing you have on your agenda is joyful reading.
