I have a buddleja out in my garden. I bought it last year and was thrilled to see it survive the winter. When it started to bloom some weeks ago, and the butterflies came to visit, I wanted to learn more about this plant. Internet gave me two names, Adam Buddle and Jean Pierre Armand David. So far I have not managed to find much information about Adam Buddle, only that he was a botanist who lived between 1662 - 1715 and that he compiled a New English Flora which was never published but which today is to be found at The Natural History Museum in London as part of the Sloane Collection. Information about Davis was easier though, on amazon I found the little book Père David 1826-1900. Early Nature Explorer in China. Written by David Sox.
The book is like a small leaflet, still filled with the interesting story about this Frenchman who traveled to China and discovered The Giant Panda, The Red Panda, Buddleja Davidii and ald The Handkerchief Tree.
