Walking from the railway station to the apartment we use to rent in a remote part of Cannaregio, used to take me past an English bookshop in Venice. Unfortunately the bookstore is closed now, but my memories are still open, and so are all the books I have bought there over the years. Like the one which is lying here with me on my desk today - Secret Gardens in Venice, by Cristiana Moldi-Ravenna and Tudy Sammartini. It is a coffee table book, filled with words and images, filled with dreams of gardens I want to hide myself inside.
At first sight you might ask, gardens in Venice? Are there any? Where are they? But as soon as you know what to look for, you find them everywhere. Unfortunately most of them are closed for public though. I have been inside a few, I have been outside a lot more.
And I have a list of gardens I hope to see......some day.
Mauro, you know everybody, can you take me on a garden tour in Venice......please :-)
It is hard to find books in English in Venice, but now I´ve heard that a new bookstore has opened in Calle della Mandola.
