Close to La Fenice Opera House is Hotel La Fenice. The icing of the cake is of course to stay in Hotel La Fenice when you have tickets for an opera.
The day my friend Antonella and I got tickets, the opera performing was Lucia Di Lammermoor. Of course I could promote that book, which I bought and read before the opera, but I am not. Today´s book is The City of Falling Angels by John Berendt. The story opens on the evening of January 29, 1996, when a sensational fire destroys the historiv Fenice Opera House. The loss of the Fenice, where five of Verdi´s operas premiered, is a catastrophe for Venetians, made worse by the revelation that arson might have been the course...... from the back cover of the book.
It is a long time since I read The City of Falling Angels.
May be it is time for a reread?
