I am sure I am not the only one with a childhood reading memory from Venice. In 1960 the Norwegian writer Maria Takvam wrote "Maria og katten i Venezia", Maria and the can in Venize. We follow the little Venetian girl Maria. She stays with her father and grandmother while her mother is in hospital. One day a tourist family comes to live with them, and the adventure begins.
I was 14 the first time I came to Venice. Marta was 11 the first time we took her.
Venice is a great place for children. Marta walked around counting the lions she saw, she photographed and made a powerpoint presentation to use in school, and in the afternoons she sat on our tiny little veranda, painting.
Marta has been back to Venice, our other kids have never been there.
I guess it is soon time to do something about that!
